Tracker Season 3 Just Officially Replaced a Fan-Favorite Character for Good

I’m really into this show, Tracker. It centers around Colter Shaw, this incredibly skilled survivalist who basically finds anything – and anyone – that’s gone missing. He’s a bit of a lone wolf, usually working on his own or alongside the local police, but he does have a small team back home helping him out. It’s a shame, though, because heading into season three, they lost half of the main cast. It’ll be interesting to see how the show adjusts!

For the first two seasons, Bobby handled all the digital work on the show. However, when Eric Graise was away for six episodes, Chris Lee’s character, Randy, stepped in to cover Bobby’s tasks. Now Bobby has moved on to a new job, and Randy is working with Colter permanently. Another main cast member who left was Abby McEnany, who played Colter’s handler. In the most recent episode of Tracker, titled “First Fire,” Reenie hires Melanie Day as a new legal assistant to help with some of the duties previously handled by Velma.

Reenie Officially Replaces Velma on Tracker

Velma and Teddi were both Colter’s handlers, but after the first season, Teddi’s character was removed from the show. Velma initially worked from Reenie’s office, giving Colter information about cases and clients. Now, while Velma and her partner work on their relationship, Reenie is the one providing Colter with new cases.

The new season of Tracker begins with Randy visiting Reenie at her Denver office. Reenie explained she needed extra help since Velma was gone. It turns out Velma did more than just find cases for Colter – she also handled office management tasks for Reenie’s law firm. In the latest episode, Reenie brought on a new legal assistant, Melanie Day, to fill Velma’s role.

Melanie, who goes by Mel, is an energetic and sometimes clumsy person. As a Gen Z individual, she’s into true crime podcasts, witchcraft content on TikTok, and romantic fantasy books. Mel primarily works as a legal assistant for Reenie, which will allow viewers to learn more about Reenie’s life. Though she’s curious about Reenie’s work with Colter, her main role is supporting the legal side of things, offering a glimpse into Reenie’s world beyond her relationship with him.

Velma previously supported Colter and assisted Reenie at the office. Mel’s role will be different – primarily focused on Reenie’s law firm, with occasional help for Colter. This suggests Velma won’t have a significant role when she returns. Reenie now seems to be taking on the support role for Colter, and Mel’s involvement will add depth to Reenie’s character and broaden the story for fans of the lawyer.

Many viewers are wary of the new team member and suspect they won’t last long on Tracker. This could create an opportunity for Velma to return. While Executive Producer and Showrunner Elwood Reid has stated Velma and Bobby won’t appear in the first half of Tracker‘s third season, he hasn’t completely ruled them out. He’s currently focused on exploring Reenie’s character and the aftermath of the Season 2 finale, and feels Velma doesn’t fit into those storylines right now.

Melanie Day Quietly Confirmed What Happened with Pej Vahdat’s Leo Scharf

In Season 2’s “Rules of the Game,” Colter investigates when the assistant of Leo Scharf disappears, while also assisting Reenie with a new, suspicious client (played by Pej Vahdat of Bones). The disappearance was a setup: the assistant, Francie, actually kidnapped Reenie. Francie’s brother had previously taken his own life after Scharf stole his work and fired him. Francie confronted Scharf, forcing him to choose between his own life and Reenie’s, and threatened to shoot whoever he didn’t choose. Scharf pretended to sacrifice himself for Reenie, but Colter intervened before Francie’s accomplice could react. Police then arrived, rescuing Scharf and arresting Francie.

The season finale of Tracker showed Reenie avoiding calls from Sharf, questioning if she wanted to continue working with him. Although Sharf attempted to help her, his questionable actions were ultimately the cause of her difficult situation. Prior to the final episode, neither Sharf nor Luturna had been mentioned, leaving viewers unsure if Sharf would return. The episode, titled “Leverage,” focuses on Reenie dealing with the aftermath of these events.

During the interview, Reenie asked Mel why she was interested in joining the law firm. Mel explained that she greatly admired Reenie, specifically mentioning Reenie’s work exposing corruption at Luturna Corp, a company recently founded by Sharf. Reenie visibly reacted to the mention of Luturna, suggesting it’s still a difficult topic for her, but she quickly regained her composure. Given Reenie’s role in revealing the company’s wrongdoing and the lasting impact it had on her, it seems very unlikely she would have continued representing Sharf as a client. While some details remain unclear, this issue appears to have been resolved in the latest episode.
