2025 delivered some fantastic comedy films that mixed well with other genres, and 2026 is shaping up to be even more exciting. In fact, 2026 promises to be a huge year for movies, with major releases, sequels fans have been waiting for, and fresh, original stories all on the schedule.
Although science fiction, action, and fantasy films are still popular, comedy is expected to be a standout genre this year. Several exciting new comedies are on the way, including adaptations of well-loved books and projects that have been in development for a long time, making 2026 a great year for laughs.
You, Me & Tuscany
Let’s talk about romantic comedies – a genre that doesn’t always get the respect it deserves. Despite being some of the most popular and well-loved movies ever made, many people tend to dismiss them as just another predictable type of film.
Romantic comedies are always a treat, and You, Me, & Tuscany looks like one of the most enjoyable ones coming out in 2025. The movie has a simple but funny premise: a woman unexpectedly starts living at a Tuscan villa owned by a stranger.
When he’s visiting, his family shows up and assumes she’s his fiancée. However, she actually starts to fall for the homeowner’s cousin, which complicates things even further. The funny premise and the obvious spark between Halle Bailey and Regé-Jean Page make it a really enjoyable watch.
Coyote Vs. Acme
I’ve been following the story of Coyote vs. Acme for a while now, and it’s been quite a journey! It actually started developing way back in 2018, but it hasn’t been a smooth ride. There was even a point where Warner Bros. seemed to want to cancel it altogether, just to save on taxes, but thankfully they changed their minds. It’s been a real rollercoaster, and I’m excited to finally see it!
After a long wait, the movie Coyote vs. Acme will be released in 2026. It’s a comedic story about Wile E. Coyote, the famous Looney Tunes character, who decides to take legal action against the Acme Corporation. He’s suing them because their products are always faulty and cause him constant trouble.
The movie will feature animated Looney Tunes characters interacting with a real-world, live-action setting. With a funny legal storyline and a cast including Will Forte, John Cena, and Lana Condor, it sounds like a lot of fun and we’re excited to see it!
People We Meet On Vacation
Emily Henry is a quickly rising star in the writing world. She first gained attention with her young adult novels starting in 2016, but her books for adults, beginning in 2020, have proven even more popular. Her novel, People We Meet on Vacation, is being made into a movie.
People We Meet on Vacation follows the story of two very different best friends who share a yearly summer trip. After a disastrous vacation to Croatia, they reconnect for one last trip, hoping to repair their friendship—and unexpectedly find themselves developing romantic feelings for each other.
This movie follows a familiar and beloved romantic comedy formula – and there’s a good reason why these stories remain popular. The cast is also a major strength, featuring talented actors like Tom Blythe, Emily Bader, Jameela Jamil, Alan Ruck, and Molly Shannon.
How To Make A Killing

Hollywood is buzzing about a few breakout stars right now, and two particularly prominent names are Glen Powell and Margaret Qualley. They’re currently starring together in the new film, How to Make a Killing.
This darkly humorous film also has elements of a thriller. It centers on Becket Redfellow (Powell), a working-class man who was rejected by his rich family at birth and is determined to claim his inheritance – even if it means resorting to risky and illegal behavior.
Powell is known for his work in funny, suspenseful movies, and Qualley is consistently excellent in all her roles. The film also boasts a fantastic supporting cast, featuring actors like Topher Grace, Jessica Henwick, and Ed Harris, making it a very promising project.
Digger
Scheduled for release in 2026, Digger looks like it could be a truly standout film. Considering the number of movies coming out next year, that’s high praise! The black comedy is directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu, a two-time Academy Award winner for Best Director.
However, Alejandro G. Iñárritu is usually known for dramatic films like Babel, The Revenant, and Birdman. It’s also interesting that Tom Cruise—a huge action star—will be playing the lead role, as he’s proven he can be funny in movies such as Tropic Thunder and Jerry Maguire.
Tom Cruise returns to comedy playing Digger Rockwell, a man known as the world’s most powerful. After accidentally causing a huge disaster, he desperately tries to convince everyone he’s actually a hero. Expect a chaotic and fun ride!
My Ex-Friend’s Wedding

There isn’t a lot of information available about My Ex-Friend’s Wedding yet. We first heard about the movie in 2023 – including who was cast, who wrote it, and the basic storyline – but we haven’t received many updates since then.
My Ex-Friend’s Wedding is about four longtime friends who reunite when they receive a worried, late-night message from the bride. She’s having second thoughts about her wedding, and they all rush to try and help her before it’s too late.
Kay Cannon, the director known for her work on Blockers, helms this new film, which she also co-wrote with bestselling author Taylor Jenkins Reid and Ashley Rodger. The movie boasts a talented cast including Amanda Seyfried, Ariana DeBose, Chloe Fineman, and Megan Salter.
I Love Boosters

Often, knowing who worked on a movie is enough to get you excited about it. That’s definitely true for I Love Boosters, which features a fantastic cast and was written and directed by Boots Riley.
Boots Riley’s debut film, Sorry to Bother You, received high praise for its unique blend of surreal humor and science fiction. His new movie, I Love Boosters, continues this trend, offering a sci-fi comedy about a team of shoplifters who steal from a well-known fashion company.
The film stars Keke Palmer, Demi Moore, Naomi Ackie, Eiza González, LaKeith Stanfield, Will Poulter, Don Cheadle, and many other talented actors. And if it’s similar in style to the director’s previous film, Sorry to Bother You, it promises to be truly unique and memorable.
Scary Movie 6
The first two Scary Movie films are generally considered the best in the parody genre. However, the quality declined in later sequels, and by the time Scary Movie 5 was released to negative reviews, none of the original actors were still involved.
For a long time, it seemed like a sixth Scary Movie wouldn’t happen, but it’s officially in the works for 2026! Even better, the team behind the original films is returning. The Wayans family will be writing and starring, and fan favorites Anna Faris and Regina Hall are also confirmed to return.
The original actors who played Greg, Bobbie, and Doofy are returning, along with comedic favorites Cheri Oteri and Chris Elliott. New cast members like Heidi Gardner and Damon Wayans Jr. will also join the show, bringing a fresh energy. This revival promises to deliver exactly what fans have been hoping for.
The Drama
This movie seems like it will blend comedy with more serious and dramatic themes. But honestly, we were excited the moment we heard Zendaya and Robert Pattinson would be starring.
Robert Pattinson stars as Charlie Thompson, a museum director from England, and Zendaya plays Emma Harwood, a bookstore clerk from Louisiana. They’re engaged to be married, but as the wedding approaches, they start to uncover hidden truths about each other that could jeopardize their plans.
Kristoffer Borgli, known for his quirky and unusual films like Sick of Myself and Dream Scenario, is now directing The Drama. This new project is expected to be a departure from his previous work, offering something different for audiences.
The Devil Wears Prada 2
I honestly can’t imagine a more perfect movie to be excited about for 2026! It’s been twenty years since The Devil Wears Prada came out, and I still love rewatching it. Everyone was completely captivated by the story, the acting was amazing, and it just made you genuinely laugh.
Fans will be thrilled to hear that a sequel to The Devil Wears Prada is coming in 2026, and many of the original stars are returning! Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci will reprise their roles, alongside new cast members like Kenneth Branagh, Lucy Liu, Pauline Chalamet, Simone Ashley, and Lady Gaga.
Many worry that reviving a beloved story decades later might not live up to expectations, and history has shown us that can happen. However, recent attempts have often been successful, the actors usually perform well, and there’s existing source material from a sequel novel to build upon.
