Tom Holland‘s acting journey has been quite remarkable. He commenced his career as a child actor in movies such as “The Impossible” and “How I Live Now”, later transforming into a familiar face by spearheading three “Spider-Man” films. After being selected to play Peter Parker, Holland has also appeared in films like “Uncharted”, “The Devil All The Time”, and “Cherry”. As he looks back on his career so far, the actor is sharing insights about a particular genre he hasn’t delved into yet, and I genuinely hope that this opportunity comes his way.
In a chat with GQ, Timothée Chalamet discussed his recent partnership with Prada for Prada Paradigme, their new fragrance. This collaboration allowed him to team up with director Thomas Vinterberg, who is known for the movie “Another Round”. Working with Vinterberg was something that excited him greatly. Additionally, during the interview, Chalamet expressed his desire to work on a genuine comedy project in the future, a role he hasn’t had the chance to explore as an actor yet. He stated:
I have a strong inclination towards creating an outright humorous piece. The comedy genre has been noticeably dwindling lately, with fewer productions being made. What excites me is the prospect of focusing not on injecting emotion into the story, but on maximizing laughter. The thought of approaching each day on set with this objective sounds incredibly appealing to me.
It’s surprising to me that Tom Holland, who has shown his comedic skills in films like “The Crowded Room” (and its comical timing), “Spider-Man”, and “Uncharted” with its witty dialogue, hasn’t starred in a full-fledged comedy movie yet. His fans have enjoyed his humor in interviews and smaller moments within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s hard to believe he hasn’t been offered a studio comedy role given his comedic talent.
Holland’s observation seems valid, as it appears that the comedy genre has faced some challenges over time, potentially explaining why he hasn’t joined an ensemble comedy cast. However, I believe the situation is shifting for the better. Movies such as “Barbie” and “Anyone But You,” along with more recent films like “Happy Gilmore 2” and “The Naked Gun,” have been well-received and successful in their own right. Given this trend, there could be an opportunity opening up for Holland to delve into the comedy genre once again.

Tom Holland Opens Up About Why The Odyssey Has Been ‘The Job Of A Lifetime’
Despite the anticipation among fans for Tom Holland to make his comedy debut, his schedule is currently packed. Lately, he’s been working on Christopher Nolan’s movie, “The Odyssey,” where he portrays Telemachus, son of Odysseus. Moreover, Holland has just begun filming the upcoming superhero flick, “Spider-Man: A Fresh Start,” and a sneak peek of his new suit from this project was recently unveiled. Furthermore, he hinted that he might be taking some time off acting after finishing all these projects. Therefore, it seems like we might have to wait a bit before seeing him in a comedy, but let’s keep our fingers crossed for the day it happens!
On July 16th, 2026, you’ll have the chance to witness Holland and the entire cast of The Odyssey in theaters. Two weeks later, on July 31st, 2026, Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be unveiled in cinemas. To keep up with other movies slated for release next year, check out the 2026 movie calendar.
