Released in 2025, the British crime drama quickly became a major success for Paramount+. The show boasted a famous cast, including Tom Hardy, and was executive produced by Guy Ritchie.
Season 2 is finished and will premiere later this year. There was online speculation that Tom Hardy had been fired and wouldn’t return for a potential Season 3, but recent reports say that claim is false.
Tom Hardy’s MobLand Return Is Now Possible
Although several major publications like The Hollywood Reporter have reported that Tom Hardy might be leaving MobLand, a new source is now saying those rumors aren’t true. The latest news is actually quite positive.
According to a source, Tom hasn’t been fired, and there’s still a possibility of a third season – they’re currently figuring out creative solutions.
According to someone involved in the production, Guy Ritchie is likely urging David Glasser to find a way to get the project done, as Ritchie enjoys collaborating with Tom Hardy. The two previously worked together on the 2008 film RocknRolla and recently reunited for MobLand nearly twenty years later.
News broke on Monday, May 25th, via PuckNews that actor Hardy had been let go from the popular crime show. The report stated disagreements with the show’s producers led to his departure. While Variety recently reported that a firing didn’t happen, it’s important to remember that the show hasn’t been officially renewed for a third season yet.
Sources say the actor was hesitant to renew their contract, potentially due to the planned September start of production, which depends on confirmation from Paramount+.
The actor allegedly attempted to take control of the creative process, requesting changes to his lines and offering notes on the script to both the executive producer, Jez Butterworth, and the series creator, Ronan Bennett.
According to a source, Tom Hardy would often stay inside his trailer for hours while filming Season 2, causing delays. This behavior was seen as a way for him to assert dominance, and the source believes making established actors like Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren wait was a risky move that could have damaged his career.
Part of the problem stemmed from reports that Hardy was often late to set. One insider described him as challenging to work with, but acknowledged his star power. Several sources suggested the issues could have been resolved privately, but online leaks made things worse.
According to one insider, the issues stemmed from late script deliveries by Butterworth – sometimes only a week before filming began – which left Hardy with no time to prepare. Because Butterworth wasn’t present on set, problems with the script couldn’t be addressed directly. Another source stated, “Butterworth mainly communicates with David Glasser. Very few people on the cast and crew interact with him; he’s rarely around.”
Hardy’s suggestions are strong and he’s keen for them to be considered. However, Jez is too busy to review them properly, which is causing a problem.
It didn’t seem to be a problem when Ritchie directed, likely because of his experience as an executive producer on the show. However, other directors lack that same level of authority when it comes to making significant changes to the script. Tom Hardy, having worked with many well-known directors, sometimes struggles with less experienced TV directors, and his strong personality can be intimidating to them.
Let me tell you, the buzz about political disagreements causing friction on set? The studio is flatly denying it. Apparently, there’s been speculation that Hardy’s very public support for Palestine clashes with Paramount and Helen Mirren’s perspectives, but my source insists that’s just not the case. They said the idea that politics are at the heart of this internal drama is ‘wildly unhelpful and untrue.’ So, whatever’s going on, it’s not about left versus right, at least according to those in the know.
What to Expect From MobLand Season 2?
I’m totally hooked on MobLand! It was created by Bennett, and Ritchie was an executive producer, which is awesome. The show centers around Harry Da Souza, played by Hardy – he’s a fixer working for the powerful Harrigan family, run by Conrad and Maeve. Honestly, even though critics were a bit divided, it’s become a massive streaming success. It has a 77% score on Rotten Tomatoes, and 67% of viewers seem to love it as much as I do!
We don’t yet know much about Season 2, as Paramount+ hasn’t released a trailer or revealed the plot. However, the season one finale left several storylines unresolved, particularly the conflict between the Harrigan and Stevenson families. Adding to this, a new and potentially dangerous figure, Kat McAllister, has emerged and could create further problems for the Harrigans.
MobLand Season 2 is expected to premiere on Paramount+ in 2026.
