Fourteen years after the last Harry Potter movie came out, Tom Felton and Jason Isaacs met up again in New York while attending a performance of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. The actors famously played father and son in the Harry Potter films – Tom Felton was in all eight movies, and Jason Isaacs first appeared in Chamber of Secrets.
I’ve seen Tom Felton in a bunch of films since his Harry Potter days, like Rise of the Planet of the Apes. But honestly, it’s so cool to see him coming back as Draco Malfoy – he’s going to be reprising the role on Broadway in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, and I’m really excited about it!
Shortly after starting his run on Broadway, Tom Felton was surprised by a visit from his former on-screen father, Jason Isaacs. Isaacs came to see Felton perform as the grown-up Draco Malfoy in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, a play that continues the story of Harry Potter nineteen years after the events of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
Isaacs posted a photo on Instagram featuring himself with Felton on stage at the Lyric, along with Aidan Close, who plays Scorpius Malfoy in the play. He captioned the picture with a quote: “I came. I saw He conquered.”
The actor who played Lucius Malfoy praised Tom Felton, saying he brilliantly stepped into a challenging role and exceeded expectations. He expressed immense pride in Felton, his on-screen son, and shared his joy at witnessing Felton’s recent success. He playfully added the hashtag “#BlondesHaveMoreFun,” a nod to the blond hair shared by their Harry Potter characters. The Instagram post also featured photos, including a heartwarming image of the two in a close embrace.
Felton responded to Isaacs’s comment, expressing gratitude to his “dad” for attending the show and sharing, “I’ve never been prouder to be a Malfoy.” He began his run in Cursed Child on November 11th. Initially, he was scheduled to finish on March 22, 2026, but due to popular demand, he’s now performing until May 10, 2026.
The play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child first opened in London’s West End in 2016, and then moved to Broadway in 2018. It was a critical success, winning Tony Awards for Best Play, Best Direction, and several design categories including costumes, lighting, scenery, and sound.
As a big film buff, I’ve been following the reaction to Cursed Child, and it’s interesting. While some Harry Potter super-fans have been a bit divided on it, most regular theatergoers and critics have absolutely loved it. It seems like it’s really resonated with a wider audience.
Aside from scenes created for the theme parks, Jason Felton is the first actor from the Harry Potter films to play their character again, but he won’t be the only one. Warwick Davis, who famously played Professor Flitwick and Griphook in the movies, will also be back for the new Harry Potter TV series, reprising his role as the Charms professor.
It seems Jason Isaacs is the first actor from the movies to watch Tom Felton perform on stage. However, Daniel Radcliffe, who played Harry Potter, did offer Felton some advice before his Broadway debut. Radcliffe himself has a lot of Broadway experience, having starred in shows like Equus, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, The Cripple of Inishmaan, The Lifespan of a Fact, and Merrily We Roll Along.
Isaac was happy to reconnect with Felton, and his kind words about the actor who played Harry Potter show how close they became during their years working together on the films.
