Tom Cruise’s American Made Is a Streaming Hit on Paramount+

The 2017 action comedy American Made is suddenly very popular on streaming. It’s quickly rising in the charts on Paramount+ after recently being added to the platform.

According to FlixPatrol, American Made has jumped eight spots to become the second most popular movie on Paramount’s Top 10 list as of November 13, 2025. The film quickly gained traction, starting at number ten on November 11th and remaining there yesterday. Currently, only the 2025 release starring Pamela Anderson is performing better. Another Tom Cruise hit, Top Gun: Maverick, is also popular, landing at number six on the chart.

The movie American Made, starring Tom Cruise, is based on the true story of Barry Seal, a former airline pilot. The film follows Barry’s journey in the 1980s, where he becomes a DEA informant and gets involved in a major CIA operation in Central America. This operation, aimed at combating the growing communist movement, was so significant it nearly caused a crisis for the Reagan administration.

Tom Cruise wasn’t the only star in American Made. The film also featured Domhnall Gleeson (known from Black Mirror), Sarah Wright (Parks and Recreation), Alejandro Edda (Fear the Walking Dead), Caleb Landry Jones (X-Men: First Class), and Jesse Plemons (Killers of the Flower Moon). Doug Liman, who directed The Bourne Identity and Edge of Tomorrow, was at the helm.

It’s no surprise that American Made is currently popular on streaming platforms. When the movie first came out in 2017, both critics and audiences loved it. It has an 85% approval rating from over 265 critics on Rotten Tomatoes, and viewers give it a 79% rating based on more than 25,000 reviews. Many praised Tom Cruise’s acting and the film’s exciting stunts.

American Made did well in theaters, though it wasn’t as big a hit as Tom Cruise’s more famous action films. It faced strong competition from movies like Stephen King’s It, ultimately finishing in third place. Despite this, the film was profitable, earning over $134 million worldwide on a $50 million budget.

Tom Cruise’s Action Movies Continue to Shine on Paramount+

With American Made gaining popularity on streaming platforms, it demonstrates how well Tom Cruise’s films perform online. The movie is also doing well on Paramount+, climbing to number 6 and remaining in the U.S. Top 10 for the last seven days.

Whether American Made will become as popular on streaming as Tom Cruise’s other big movies is still uncertain. His Mission: Impossible films recently saw a boost in streaming views, likely due to the success of Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning in theaters. However, it’s not just action movies that perform well for Cruise; his critically acclaimed legal thriller also gained traction on streaming platforms back in August.

American Made is now streaming on Paramount+.
