Tom Cruise Supports Glen Powell In The Running Man Remake

Tom Cruise recently complimented Glen Powell’s new version of The Running Man. The two actors worked together on the 2022 hit Top Gun: Maverick, which helped launch Powell into leading roles in films like Anyone But You and Hit Man (both 2023), as well as the upcoming Twisters (2024). Powell’s newest film is a remake of The Running Man, based on the 1982 Stephen King novel and following the 1987 movie starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Tom Cruise attended the London premiere of Glen Powell’s new film, The Running Man, on November 5th to show his support. He posted on X, praising the movie and congratulating Powell, saying it was funny and exciting. True to form, Cruise also enjoyed a large amount of popcorn during the screening!

Tom Cruise posted photos of himself with the cast of his latest movie, all holding special “Running Man” popcorn buckets. The photos include Glen Powell, director Edgar Wright, Colman Domingo, Emilia Jones, and Lee Pace. You can see Cruise’s post below.

The new version of The Running Man, directed by Edgar Wright and co-written with Michael Bacall (based on the 1982 Stephen King novel), features Glen Powell as Ben Richards. He’s a contestant on a dangerous game show where he must avoid being hunted and killed by a team of pursuers.

The cast of The Running Man features a talented group of actors, including Oscar nominees Josh Brolin (Milk) and William H. Macy (Fargo), as well as Colman Domingo (known for Sing Sing and Rustin), Emmy nominee Lee Pace (Pushing Daisies), Jayme Lawson (The Batman), Michael Cera, BAFTA nominee Emilia Jones (CODA), David Zayas (Dexter), and Katy O’Brian (Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning), among others.

Tom Cruise isn’t the only fan of Glen Powell’s new film! Early reviews for The Running Man are in, and critics are calling it a thrilling, action-packed movie with surprising emotional depth. Many believe it’s even better than the original story, and despite its length, it keeps audiences entertained from beginning to end. Glen Powell’s acting is also getting a lot of positive attention.

Tom Cruise didn’t just attend the premiere of Glen Powell’s film – he also offered valuable guidance. Powell revealed in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that Cruise mentored him on performing his own stunts for The Running Man, sharing advice during a detailed two-and-a-half-hour conversation.

I asked for advice on making movie fight scenes look realistic and, more importantly, how to safely perform them. He emphasized that movie stunts are just as physically demanding as real fights. You need to be incredibly fit and prepared because the impact feels real – getting thrown onto your back by a table will feel exactly like being thrown by a table, and you’ll likely have to repeat that take many times.

After speaking with him, it became obvious he takes these stunts incredibly seriously and expects others to as well. He emphasized the real danger involved – he’s broken every bone in his body and understands the risks better than anyone. He made it clear this isn’t something to take lightly.

He explained that performing your own stunts as an actor requires significant dedication and investment, and it’s important for connecting with the audience. Doing these things is vital for making a movie believable and worth the price of admission. Fans appreciate knowing an actor is fully committed, and he believes in a reciprocal relationship – he’ll give his all if they do too.

Tom is truly an exceptional actor and stunt performer. I feel incredibly lucky to have him as a friend and mentor, especially because he helped me get through this movie safely.

The Running Man releases in theaters on November 14.
