Today Is The Last Day You Can Watch Marvel’s $100.5 Million Flop That Became Global Streaming Hit On Netflix

A Marvel movie that didn’t perform well in theaters has become popular on streaming, but it will soon be removed from Netflix. While most people focus on the highly successful Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s not the only series of movies and shows based on Marvel characters – just the most famous one.

Besides the main Marvel Cinematic Universe, Sony also created a universe based on Spider-Man characters. While 2018’s Venom was successful, the franchise didn’t really grow as Sony intended. Now, Sony has stopped planning new movies featuring these Spider-Man-related characters. However, one Sony Marvel show did find an audience on streaming, but it’s soon leaving Netflix.

This Marvel Box Office Flop Became A Major Streaming Hit

Most of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (SSU) movies haven’t been successful in theaters, with the exception of the Venom films. Madame Web, starring Dakota Johnson, was one of those underperforming movies. It earned just $100.5 million worldwide. Considering its $80 million production cost, Madame Web actually needed to gross between $160 and $200 million to cover its costs and avoid losing money.

The movie Madame Web didn’t do well in theaters, reportedly costing Sony around $100 million. However, it surprisingly became very popular on streaming. Bloomberg reported that Madame Web was Sony’s most-watched movie on Netflix in 2024, but it’s now leaving the platform.

Madame Web Is Leaving Netflix Soon & Here Is Where It Will Land

Now that Madame Web has become popular on streaming, those wanting to watch it on Netflix need to act fast! Today, November 13th, is the last day it will be available. After being on Netflix for a year, the Sony Marvel film is moving to a different streaming service.

The movie Madame Web is coming to Disney+, joining other Marvel films and shows. It will be available to stream starting November 14th, along with a new Marvel event series. Despite not performing well in theaters, Madame Web will now be available for audiences to enjoy at home.

On November 14th, Disney+ will release LEGO Marvel Avengers: Strange Tails, a new animated special in two parts. This gives Marvel fans a choice: they can enjoy the lighthearted humor of Strange Tails or the more serious tone of the Madame Web movie, offering two different ways to experience the Marvel universe.
