Today is a Sad Day for Fans of Star Trek’s Kelvin Timeline

It feels like ages since I last saw a Star Trek movie in theaters – it was Star Trek Beyond back in 2016, the third film in that rebooted timeline. I’ve been hearing whispers, especially from Simon Pegg, about maybe getting a fourth movie made, but a recent report is making me think that might not actually happen, and honestly, that’s a little disappointing.

According to a recent analysis of David Ellison’s first 100 days as Paramount’s head, the studio is unlikely to make a fourth movie featuring the cast of the recent Star Trek films. Variety reports that Paramount is now focusing on a new Star Trek movie with a different cast, meaning Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, and the other actors from J.J. Abrams’ 2009 Star Trek and its sequels (Star Trek Into Darkness in 2013 and Star Trek Beyond in 2016) won’t be returning. Abrams produced those films.
