It’s interesting that Tim Burton has said he doesn’t enjoy comic books, given how much they’ve impacted his work. He famously directed the 1989 film Batman, which was a huge success, and later tried to make a Superman movie starring Nicolas Cage, though that project was never finished. More recently, he created the Netflix series Wednesday, a new take on The Addams Family. Plus, some of his own creations, like Beetlejuice, have been turned into comics, and his films continue to inspire comic adaptations even now.

  • Tim Burton’s Sleepy Hollow (1999) continues in Return to Sleepy Hollow!
  • The Van Tassel mortuary is overflowing with bodies–—residents of Sleepy Hollow who died tangled in roots, decorated in flowers, or blanketed in soil. The constables insist that the deaths are accidents, but Ichabod and Katrina suspect that evil has returned to plague the town.
  • As their investigation leads them deeper into the Western Woods, Lotte, Katrina’s daughter, begins an investigation of her own by communing with the spirits of the dead. Screaming to be heard, the lingering souls may hold the answers the living are looking for.

So, the first issue introduced Lotte, Ichabod Crane and Katrina Van Tassel’s daughter, and now, in issue #2, we’ve got another creepy body found in the Western Woods. This time, it was constables Tarvey and Salt who found him, and it was just as disturbing as the first – all decorated with flowers and roots, but his face was…gone, basically unrecognizable. This case actually brings Ichabod and Katrina back together, even if it’s just as partners trying to figure things out. I have a feeling this investigation is going to be seriously weird and challenge everything they think they know. Honestly, if the Headless Horseman was behind this, there’d be a lot more than just a missing face, right?
