Thunderbolts* Star Had This To Say About #JusticeForTaskmaster Trend

Many Marvel fans were upset when Taskmaster was defeated by Ghost in Thunderbolts. They felt the character wasn’t used well in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and they started the hashtag #JusticeforTaskmaster to express their disappointment and ask for Taskmaster to return in a more substantial role.

Nine months after the movie came out, Olga Kurylenko, the actress who played the masked mercenary, thanked fans for all their support. Interestingly, the movie’s promotion had suggested her character would have a much bigger part than it turned out to be.

Olga Kurylenko is grateful for fans’ support towards Thunderbolts*’ Taskmaster

While promoting her new movie, Misdirection, actress Anya Taylor-Joy chatted with Josh Wilding from ComicBookMovie. At the end of their conversation, Wilding asked her what she thought about the enthusiastic fan base for the show Taskmaster.

Honestly, it really touched me to hear all the support. I’m so grateful! I never imagined so many people would rally behind this, and their dedication is just incredibly sweet.

You won’t believe this, but I actually connected with the person who started the whole #JusticeforTaskmaster thing on social media! It started when I replied to one of his posts – I’d seen him talking about the show, and I just wanted to reach out and thank him. Honestly, it was such a kind gesture on his part, and I wanted to let him know I appreciated his support.

Olga Kurylenko recently addressed the online #JusticeforTaskmaster campaign, following earlier comments about her experience with the Taskmaster character in both Black Widow and Thunderbolts. At the Red Sea International Film Festival, she admitted her role was smaller in Thunderbolts, suggesting the story was altered due to having too many characters. She explained that with Marvel films, characters often appear to die but can always return.

Kurylenko explained that in one particular story, a character vanishes unexpectedly and then reappears, leading her to believe they essentially don’t die at all (according to Deadline).

After the movie Thunderbolts came out last year, a reliable online source named MyTimetoShineHello shared a rumor about the original plans for the story. According to the rumor, Taskmaster was meant to have a much bigger part, including conflicts with John Walker, a connection with Ghost, convincing Bucky Barnes to help them take down Val, and being central to the battle against Bob/Sentry.

In a recent interview with Variety, the director of Thunderbolts, Jake Schreier, revealed that Taskmaster was initially planned to have a more significant part in the movie. He explained that the character’s screen time was cut back during rewrites caused by the SAG-AFTRA strikes. Schreier also said he understands why fans were disappointed by this change and emphasized that the decision wasn’t made easily.
