Despite initial expectations that Thunderbolts would simply be a stopgap film to keep Marvel fans engaged before the releases of Spider-Man: Brand New Day (July 2026) and Avengers: Doomsday (December 2026), the movie has become a massive success for Studios. Many were surprised by the positive reception, especially given the impact of the debut of the Sentry character.
The movie has received positive reviews, earning a ‘Certified Fresh’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes with an 88% score from critics and a 93% audience approval rating. It’s currently competing with popular films like James Gunn’s Superman and Ryan Coogler’s Sinners. Fortunately, the character Bob (also known as Sentry) and his team will continue to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, specifically in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, and there’s even more exciting news to come.
A new Sentry comic book series is coming in March 2026! This four-part story is written by Paul Jenkins, with art by Christian Rosado, and features striking variant covers.

Similar to his past struggles with The Void in Thunderbolts, Sentry is once again fighting a war within himself. His darker side is trying to take control, threatening not just him, but the whole world. This conflict between good and evil also highlights the importance of mental health and having a strong support system to help people make positive choices – a message powerfully conveyed through the artwork.
Sentry Is Back … For More Than Thunderbolts
Sentry is back, and fans will be thrilled! This series also welcomes back legendary Marvel writer Jenkins after a decade, and introduces exciting new talent Rosado, who debuted in December 2025 with Marvel: Black, White & Blood and Guts #3. Jenkins has expressed his excitement about once again writing the Sentry character.
This four-episode series will be a great way to introduce Sentry to audiences alongside his first appearance in the Thunderbolts movie within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Sentry is a remarkably powerful, yet often overlooked, superhero known for his inner struggles, which makes him a compelling character. Getting more of Sentry in 2026 is fantastic news for fans of both Marvel Comics and Marvel Studios – it’s a guaranteed win.
