Taika Waititi, the director of Thor: Ragnarok and Thor: Love and Thunder, believes his films ultimately benefited the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a whole.
Taika Waititi directed both Thor: Ragnarok (2017) and Thor: Love and Thunder (2022). Compared to the earlier Thor films from 2011 and 2013, these movies are significantly funnier and more lighthearted.
Critics and Marvel fans generally enjoyed Thor: Ragnarok, but Thor: Love and Thunder wasn’t as popular. Chris Hemsworth, who plays Thor, is set to reprise his role in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday.
What did Taika Waititi say about his Thor movies?
In a recent interview with Variety, Taika Waititi discussed his involvement with the Thor movies and expressed his anticipation for the next installment directed by the Russo Brothers.
I came along after Thor was already established,” he said. “Chris and I worked together to evolve the character, and that was ultimately beneficial for the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe. I’m really looking forward to the next ‘Avengers’ films – I actually rewatched ‘Infinity War’ and ‘Endgame’ recently, and they still hold up. I’m close with the Russo brothers and excited to see their future projects.”
Details about the plots of Avengers: Doomsday and its follow-up, Avengers: Secret Wars, are still secret, so it’s unclear how big of a part Chris Hemsworth will play. However, the recent trailer for Doomsday heavily featured Thor, suggesting he’ll be a significant character in the upcoming movies.
The next Avengers movie, Doomsday, is scheduled to come out in US cinemas on December 18, 2026. It will be followed by Secret Wars on December 17, 2027.
