Occasionally, an actor embodies a role so perfectly that it’s hard to imagine anyone else playing the character. Chris Hemsworth is definitely one of those actors when it comes to Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He first appeared as the god of thunder in 2011 and has completely owned the part ever since.
Recently, Chris Hemsworth wasn’t the voice of Thor, even though the character is a key part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While Hemsworth returned for the Disney+ series What If…?, the voice of Thor in the upcoming 2025 animated series Marvel Zombies is actually Greg Furman. This change led some fans to speculate that a more permanent recasting might be happening.
Actually, that rumor is completely false. Chris Hemsworth will be in Avengers: Doomsday, and he’ll have a major role in the upcoming multiversal conflict. He’s been playing Thor for over a decade, appearing in four solo movies and numerous team-up events.
The first trailer for the new Marvel movie was released alongside the worldwide debut of Avatar: Fire and Ash, and rumors suggest it will heavily feature the return of Captain America, played by Steve Rogers. However, this isn’t the only trailer Marvel has planned.
Marvel plans to release a new trailer every week for the next month, each focusing on a different superhero. The second trailer is confirmed to be about Thor, and it suggests a major showdown in Thor in Avengers: Doomsday. Just like Thanos before him, Doctor Doom appears to be facing an incredibly powerful opponent.
Thor Will Be Surrounded by ‘Love’ In Avengers: Doomsday
Though Thor has many reasons to fight in upcoming battles, a leaked trailer suggests his primary motivation is love. This seems to be a continuation of the story from Thor: Love and Thunder, where he takes care of Gorr the God Butcher’s resurrected child, named Love, who is played by Chris Hemsworth’s daughter, India Rose. Love isn’t just a child; she’s the embodiment of Eternity and possesses incredible cosmic power that will be crucial when facing the powerful God Emperor Doom.
It’s unclear if Jane Foster, who became Mighty Thor in Thor: Love and Thunder to temporarily overcome her cancer, will return from Valhalla. Given that Thor is asking Odin for assistance, it’s possible Foster could be given another chance to join him and Love/Eternity in the fight against Doom.
Beyond safeguarding the Sacred Timeline, there isn’t much left to add to Thor’s already impressive character and immense power – a fitting tribute to one of the MCU’s most important heroes.
