This Next-Gen Zelda Glimpse Is Giving Me So Much Hope For The Future

What’s next for The Legend of Zelda is anyone’s guess. After releasing two games set in the world of Breath of the Wild, many fans believe it’s time for the series to explore a new direction.

It’s always hard to know what Nintendo will do, but there are a lot of exciting possibilities for the future of the Zelda series. The Digital Dreams YouTube channel recently explored some of those potential directions.

If The Next Zelda Looks This Good, I’ll Be Happy

The Switch 2 Has Made Strides

Digital Dreams has showcased Zelda: Breath of the Wild running incredibly smoothly at 8K resolution with 60 frames per second, and with added ray tracing effects, all powered by an RTX 5090 graphics card. The technical specs are very impressive. While the resulting visuals aren’t necessarily what I’d expect for a future Zelda game, it’s encouraging and suggests what Zelda games might be capable of on the next Nintendo Switch and future consoles.

One player commented that the game’s impressive art style is really shining through, even with ray tracing enabled. While ray tracing improves the visuals, it’s clear the game is fundamentally built using traditional rendering techniques.

More than anything, I’m hoping the next Zelda game runs smoothly and consistently. While Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom played well on the Switch 2, the original Switch versions had performance problems when they first came out. If the Switch 2 can maintain a steady framerate, that would be a great improvement. I’m not asking for incredibly realistic graphics, but a stable experience is a priority.

What’s Next For The Legend Of Zelda?

Breath Of The Wild 3?

With Nintendo expected to soon announce the next Legend of Zelda game, fans are starting to guess what it will be like. If the new game is another direct sequel to Breath of the Wild, even set in a different world, many players will likely voice their opinions. There was already some disappointment that Tears of the Kingdom reused the same map.

The Zelda games usually start fresh with each new installment, and fans are hoping for something different this time. Breath of the Wild is getting older – almost a decade now – and a potential Switch 2 version would likely resolve its remaining technical problems. So, moving on to a completely new Zelda game wouldn’t be a bad thing at all.

Even as gaming technology improves, The Legend of Zelda games continue to be classics – and that’s no accident! I’m really looking forward to seeing where the series goes next.
