This 26-Year-Old Loose End Gives The Baldur’s Gate Show The Perfect Candidate For The First Live-Action Drow

HBO Max’s upcoming Baldur’s Gate series has the opportunity to finally bring the Drow – a prominent race from the Forgotten Realms lore – to live-action. While the recent Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves film explored their underground homeland, the Underdark, it surprisingly didn’t include the dark elves themselves, leaving a long-standing fan request unanswered. This new show can resolve that omission after 26 years.

It’s likely we’ll see a live-action Drow character on screen soon. With two upcoming TV series based on the Forgotten Realms – one on Netflix and another continuing the story of Baldur’s Gate 3 on HBO Max – the chances are much higher than they were in the movie Honor Among Thieves. These shows will have more time to delve into that world, making a Drow appearance more probable.

As a big fan of the Baldur’s Gate games, I’ve been thinking about potential companions for the next installment. They could definitely create a brand new Dark Elf character to join our party, which would be cool. But honestly, I’d be even more excited to see a character we already know and love from Baldur’s Gate 2 make a return. That would really add something special!

HBO Max’s Baldur’s Gate Show Can Finally Reveal What Happened To Soulafein

In Baldur’s Gate 2, players must venture into the Drow city of Ust Natha, located in the Underdark. There, they encounter Soulafein, a Drow warrior who begrudgingly agrees to help them. Initially, he seems like a standard, ruthless Drow fighter, but his true personality is more complex and unfolds based on the player’s decisions.

Solaufein is secretly a kind person who doesn’t agree with the wickedness of his people or their goddess, Lloth. He quietly worships Eilistraee, a much gentler goddess. Depending on the choices you make, Solaufein might leave the city of Ust Natha to seek adventure on the surface world, and you’ll never see him again.

Solaufein is a fascinating character from the Baldur’s Gate series, and many fans were upset that you couldn’t have him join your party. His potential was so strong that players created modifications to expand his storyline. However, his story was ultimately left incomplete by the game developers.

The upcoming HBO Max series based on Baldur’s Gate has the potential to revisit a previously unresolved storyline and reveal what happened to the character Solaufein. This would be logical, even though the latest game takes place over a century after Baldur’s Gate 2, as Drow elves can live for hundreds of years. It’s quite possible Solaufein is still alive and has found a better life somewhere outside of Ust Natha.

The show could benefit from bringing him in, even if just for a short arc. It would allow time to explore his story and create a strong link to the original Baldur’s Gate games, which fans would really enjoy.
