Hulu has officially ordered a pilot for the reboot of The X-Files, a project Ryan Coogler has been working on for almost three years. Coogler has also secured a lead actor and showrunner for the new sci-fi series.
The new series centers around two FBI agents – both highly accomplished, but with very different approaches – who team up when they’re tasked with reopening a forgotten division that investigates strange and unexplainable events.
Who is the lead actress in Ryan Coogler’s The X-Files?
Danielle Deadwyler, known for her roles in ‘Till’ and ’40 Acres’ and a BAFTA nomination, will be a lead in the upcoming reboot of ‘The X-Files’ on Hulu. This is her first major television role as a co-lead, following appearances in shows like ‘Paradise Lost,’ ‘P-Valley,’ ‘Station Eleven,’ and ‘From Scratch,’ as well as a guest spot on ‘The Bear.’ In addition to ‘The X-Files,’ Deadwyler will also appear in the HBO comedy ‘Rooster’ starring Steve Carell, and the third season of ‘Euphoria’.
Ryan Coogler is bringing back ‘The X-Files’ and has chosen Jennifer Yale (‘The Copenhagen Test’) to lead the show as showrunner and executive producer. Coogler will write and direct the pilot episode, which is based on the original series created by Chris Carter. This reboot is part of a five-year deal Coogler has with Disney. He’ll also executive produce alongside Sex Ohanian, Zinzi Coogler, Simone Harris, and Carter. The series is a production of Proximity Media, Onyx Collective, and 20th Television.
The show first aired on Fox from 1993 to 2002, running for nine seasons. It later returned with seasons ten and eleven in 2016 and 2018. The series followed two FBI special agents as they investigated strange and puzzling cases. The main cast included David Duchovny as Fox Mulder, Gillian Anderson as Dana Scully, Robert Patrick as John Doggett, Annabeth Gish as Monica Reyes, William B. Davis as the Cigarette Smoking Man, and Mitch Pileggi as Walter Skinner.
