In the 1990s, The X-Files captivated audiences with its stories of alien conspiracies, the undeniable connection between its stars, and its memorable, catchy theme song. Now, all episodes of the popular Fox drama will be available to stream for free on Pluto TV in 2026. This isn’t a reboot – just the complete series finding a new home – and it’s separate from any potential plans by Ryan Coogler. Get ready for a lot of monsters, aliens, and unsolved mysteries!
Starting January 1st, you can watch all eleven seasons of The X-Files for free on Pluto TV. It will be available on-demand and through a dedicated 24/7 channel within Pluto TV’s Sci-Fi section. This new channel joins others featuring classic sci-fi shows like Doctor Who, Star Trek, and The Twilight Zone. The channel will start by showing all 218 episodes in order, followed by themed weekend binge-watching events.
All nine original seasons of the show, which originally aired on Fox from 1993 to 2002, will be available to stream on Pluto TV for free, along with the two seasons that returned in 2016 and 2018. While the movies Fight the Future and I Want to Believe won’t be included, the 218 episodes offer plenty of content for both new and longtime fans. The series is also available on Hulu, but requires a paid subscription.
I won’t reveal any plot details for those who haven’t seen it yet, but with eleven seasons, there’s a lot of the classic team-up between David Duchovny’s Fox Mulder and Gillian Anderson’s Dana Scully. Later, Robert Patrick’s John Doggett and Annabeth Gish’s Monica Reyes join them, along with other characters.
It’s hard to guarantee a simple story across 218 episodes, or a memorable villain who doesn’t overstay their welcome. But as a long-time fan – I’ve been watching since the ’90s – I’ve already identified five episodes I want to rewatch immediately, many of which are featured in TopMob’s list of the best X-Files episodes. Check it out:
- “Millennium” – Season 7, Episode 4
- “Ice” – Season 1, Episode 8
- “Clyde Bruckman’s Final Repose” – Season 3, Episode 4
- “Pusher” – Season 3, Episode 17
- “Bad Blood”- Season 5, Episode 12
Now that The X-Files is coming to Pluto TV in 2026, I’m thinking I’ll want to rewatch Millennium. To be honest, I only really remember the ending, which I know a lot of fans can relate to, so it would be fun to revisit. Plus, with all the snow we’ve already had and more on the way in January, watching Ice seems perfectly fitting.
Peter Boyle won an Emmy for his guest appearance in the Everybody Loves Raymond episode “Clyde Bruckman’s Final Repose,” and a recent celebration of the show’s 30th anniversary brought his work to mind. As for “Pusher” and “Bad Blood,” I consider them the best X-Files episodes – ranking them as my top two – and they’re always great to watch, anytime.
If you’re new to the show, I suggest starting with the first episode. There are some particularly great ones, like the crossover with X-Files and Cops, a mystery written by Stephen King, an episode that earned a TV-MA rating way back in 1996, and several exciting stories that unfold over multiple episodes.
Whether you’re discovering Pluto TV for the first time or revisiting old favorites, tune in starting January 1, 2026. You’ll find tons of shows and great movies, and best of all, it’s completely free!
