Since it first aired in 2021, the show has become popular around the world. The latest season, set in beautiful beach locations, just got a major update.
According to reports, Season 4 of The White Lotus won’t be filmed at a Four Seasons hotel. While previous seasons were shot at Four Seasons locations in Hawaii, Sicily, Italy, and Thailand, HBO has decided not to renew its agreement with the hotel chain for the next season. The reports also strongly suggest that Season 4 will be set in France.
We last heard about Season 4 in early September, but HBO hasn’t announced where it will be filmed yet. At that time, Deadline reported on The White Lotus…
Variety reports that the hit anthology series, created by Mike White, is considering France – specifically Paris and the French Riviera – as the setting for its next season, suggesting they’re actively looking at locations there.
Just like Season 3, which filmed primarily on the island of Koh Samui but also included scenes in Bangkok where Rick plotted his revenge, Season 4 will use two main locations. The new season will be largely set in the South of France, with a secondary storyline unfolding in Paris.
Though glimpses of the French Riviera have been shown and a storyline in Paris is promising, the show’s decision to move away from Four Seasons hotels signals a significant change. Previous seasons were famously filmed at luxurious Four Seasons locations – Hawaii, Sicily, and Thailand. While viewers have come to expect that level of opulence, a new setting offers the opportunity to refresh the show and introduce a different kind of atmosphere.
The Paris locations featured this season continue to emphasize luxury. For example, the famous Le Lutetia hotel, a five-star property on the Seine’s Left Bank, has historically been a favorite of icons like Charlie Chaplin, Ernest Hemingway, Pablo Picasso, and Josephine Baker. The Ritz Paris, another five-star hotel, also boasts a glamorous history and has hosted celebrities such as Coco Chanel, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and Marcel Proust.
What to Know About The White Lotus Season 4?
With the show’s increasing popularity, there’s growing pressure to cast bigger names. While The White Lotus began as a self-contained limited series and has expanded to multiple seasons, the newest installment is starting to move away from the show’s original format of telling a different story each season, set against the backdrop of a luxurious French location.
Fan favorites like Tanya (Jennifer Coolidge), Greg (Jon Gries), and Belinda (Natasha Rothwell) returned in several seasons, and their stories aren’t finished yet, except for Tanya’s. While Season 4 hasn’t announced any new cast members, it will likely continue the show’s tradition of blending American actors with local talent, similar to how they featured Sabrina Impacciatore in Season 2 and Lisa from Blackpink, Tayme Thapthimthong, and Lek Patravadi in Season 3.
The White Lotus Season 4 is expected to start filming in 2026.
