The Walking Dead Is a New Streaming Hit 15 Years Later on PVOD

The popular zombie drama is once again a hit. Originally a television favorite on AMC, the show is now captivating millions of viewers again, even after 15 years.

Even though you can currently stream *The Walking Dead* on Netflix, Pluto TV, and AMC+, it’s surprisingly been the most popular show on iTunes for the last three days. It’s outperformed shows that are currently airing, like *NCIS* (at No. 4), *FBI* (No. 6), and *Ghosts* (No. 9), as well as classics like *What’s New, Scooby-Doo?* (No. 2), *The Twilight Zone* (No. 3), and *Dexter* (No. 5). Created by Frank Darabont and based on Robert Kirkman’s comic book series, the show follows a group of people trying to survive a zombie apocalypse, constantly facing threats from both zombies—called “walkers”—and other surviving groups.

The Walking Dead, which started the television universe of the same name, aired on AMC for 11 seasons and 177 episodes, from October 2010 to November 2022. Andrew Lincoln starred as Rick Grimes for the first nine seasons. After he left, the show became more of a team effort, following the journeys of its remaining main cast members, including Norman Reedus, Melissa McBride, Lauren Cohan, Josh McDermitt, Christian Serratos, Ross Marquand, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

The Walking Dead Universe Is Still Airing New Series on AMC

As a big fan of *The Walking Dead*, it’s amazing to see how much the universe has expanded over the last 15 years! Besides the original show, there have been six spin-offs, and four have already finished their runs. We had *Fear the Walking Dead*, which ran from 2015 to 2023, *The Walking Dead: World Beyond* (2020-2021), the anthology series *Tales of the Walking Dead* (2022), and most recently, *The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live* in 2024 – which was so exciting because it brought Andrew Lincoln back as Rick Grimes! Right now, there are two spin-offs still going: *The Walking Dead: Dead City* and *The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon*. Both of those pick up the story after the original show ended, following Maggie and Negan in *Dead City* and Daryl in *Daryl Dixon*, so it’s cool to see what happened to those characters.

Both *Dead City* and *Daryl Dixon* might be coming to a close soon. *Dead City* is currently filming its third season in Boston, with new cast members like Jimmy Simpson from *Westworld* joining the show. This season will have eight episodes and will be its last. While AMC hasn’t officially announced an end date for *Dead City*, it’s likely to have only one season remaining after the current one, mirroring the expected fate of *Daryl Dixon*.

Currently, there are no plans for a new major series to follow up *Daryl Dixon* (or potentially *Dead City*). Although a second installment of *Tales of the Walking Dead* is reportedly in the works, there haven’t been any recent updates since it was first announced in April 2023. However, Scott Gimple, the Chief Content Officer for *The Walking Dead* Universe, has indicated that more stories in this world will likely be created in the future.

If you’re looking to catch up on *The Walking Dead*, you’ve got options! I found it’s pretty easy to rent or buy digitally through services like iTunes, or you can stream it on platforms like Netflix and Pluto TV. Definitely accessible if you’re wanting a zombie fix!
