The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Showrunner Previews Codron’s Season 4 Journey

Be warned, this contains spoilers for The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 3, episode 7! The showrunner, David Zabel, has hinted at a significant character returning in season 4, and revealed when Daryl and Carol will cross paths with them. The season 3 finale saw Fede intentionally damage the boat Daryl and Carol planned to use to return home, meaning they’ll be stranded in Spain and focused on escaping throughout the final season.

The season finale surprised viewers by revealing that Codron is still alive. He’s apparently traveled a long distance, all the way from France to the Spanish coast. We last saw him at the end of Daryl Dixon season 2, where he attacked Daryl after bat guano in the Chunnel caused him to become enraged over his brother’s death. It appears he’s now recovered from whatever affected him.

I was reading an interview with Scott M. Gimple over at ScreenRant, and he let slip some exciting news about Daryl Dixon season 4. Apparently, Codron – a character we first met in the original spinoff – is going to be a pretty big deal this season. He’ll actually be popping up throughout the final episodes, and we’ll see him reunite with Daryl and Carol in episode 2, which Daniel Percival directed. I’m really curious to see how they’ll bring him back and what role he’ll play!

Owen Danoff mentioned he’s short on time and expressed his excitement about Romain Levi and Codron’s return in the finale. He then asked if there’s any information about what viewers can expect in season four.

David Zabel praises an actor’s performance throughout season 4, highlighting a compelling and emotionally resonant storyline. He describes the actor as both a talented performer and a wonderful person, and commends the depth of the character he portrays. The story arc focuses on a spiritual journey that ultimately leads to a reunion with key characters, Daryl and Carol, specifically in episode 2 of season 4, which was directed by Dan. Zabel expresses immense satisfaction with the actor and the direction of the episode.

Zabel explained that the show will reveal how Codron traveled from the Channel Tunnel to Spain. The second episode of season four will largely focus on his backstory, showing viewers how he arrived at his current location and what that means for his future role in the series.

Owen Danoff: Oh, wow! I actually thought you were going to say something about bringing him to the United States, and I was hoping you wouldn’t!

Look, as a huge fan of Romain Levi – or Codron, as I like to call him – I can tell you they’re taking their time bringing him back, and that’s a good thing. They aren’t just going to suddenly have him reappear. They’re really showing us how he got from where we last saw him to reconnecting with everyone else. It’s a real character journey, and honestly, it’s going to be so worth it. If you’re a Codron fan like me, you’ll be completely satisfied. They’re giving us plenty of his backstory and screen time, not just throwing him in for a quick cameo. It feels earned, and I’m excited about that.

Among the new characters introduced in Daryl Dixon, Codron has undergone a significant transformation. He initially sought revenge on Daryl for his brother’s death. But after turning against the Pouvoir group, he joined forces with Daryl and his allies. He eventually discovered that his brother was actually killed by Maribelle, the same person who robbed Daryl.

Daryl and Codron were friends until the end of season 2, and season 4 could rekindle that bond. Codron’s behavior in the tunnels, where he attacked Daryl, was caused by exposure to bat guano, meaning he wasn’t thinking clearly. Because of this, they’re likely to quickly become allies when they reunite.

Zabel isn’t saying whether Norman Reedus’s character, Daryl Dixon, will return to the US, and he’s keeping details about his travels in season 4 secret. However, because Daryl will be crucial to the show’s ending, it looks like he’ll have a strong storyline unfolding in Spain, probably as a key partner to other characters.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 4 arrives in 2026 on AMC and AMC+.
