December is proving to be a good month for fans of the franchise. However, there’s a catch.
PlutoTV is offering a few free movies, but they might not be the ones viewers are hoping for. Currently, you can stream Terminator (1984), Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991), and Terminator: Genisys (2015) on the ad-supported service.
The 2019 Terminator film, featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton reprising their iconic roles, isn’t currently available on PlutoTV. If you’re interested in watching it – directed by Tim Miller and written by David S. Goyer, Justin Rhodes, and Billy Ray – you’ll need a Paramount+ subscription.
Terminator: Dark Fate aimed to be the conclusive chapter in the Terminator series starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. It was significant because it reunited Schwarzenegger with Linda Hamilton’s Sarah Connor for the first time since Terminator 2. The film centers on Connor and the reprogrammed T-800 Terminator (Schwarzenegger) working together to safeguard a young woman from a dangerous, advanced Terminator sent from the future.
Despite not being a huge financial success – it made $261.1 million globally on a $185 million budget – Terminator: Dark Fate was well-received by audiences. Critics gave it a 70% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 315 reviews. However, fans rated it even higher, with an 82% score from over 10,000 ratings.
He admitted the script wasn’t very good, but also took some responsibility for its quality. While he believed the Terminator series still had potential, he confirmed he wouldn’t be participating in any future installments, saying, “I’m done.”
Schwarzenegger understands that audiences are ready for a fresh take on The Terminator franchise, and a strong new concept is needed. He expressed a lot of affection for the series, noting that it played a key role in his career, and praised the first three films. While he was Governor during the production of the fourth film (Salvation), he felt the fifth (Genisys) and sixth (Dark Fate) installments didn’t quite work because the scripts weren’t strong enough. He acknowledged that those films were likely to underperform due to their writing.
A New Terminator One-Shot is Coming Very Soon
Dynamite Entertainment is releasing a special holiday story on December 3rd featuring a unique take on The Terminator. Titled The Terminator: Santa Claus is Coming to Town, the story will be set within the world of Skynet, but with a festive, *Terminatorstyle twist.
This one-shot comic takes place on Christmas Eve in a post-apocalyptic future ruled by Skynet, and it’s far from a cheerful setting. Despite the devastation, the older members of the Resistance fondly remember past Christmases and share those memories with the younger generation between drone attacks. The comic will be available in stores on December 3rd.
You can now watch Terminator: Dark Fate on Paramount+. As for some of the earlier films, Terminator (1984), Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991), and Terminator: Genisys (2015) are all available on PlutoTV.
