The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Failed Bowser In A Disappointing Way

As a huge fan of the first Super Mario Bros. Movie, I was really excited for the sequel, Super Mario Galaxy Movie, and it definitely didn’t disappoint! They really went all out this time, packing it with even more characters, fun little nods for fans like me (so many Easter eggs!), extra side adventures, and even bigger action sequences. While critics haven’t been as enthusiastic, regular moviegoers – like me – are absolutely loving it!

Dedicated Nintendo fans haven’t let the negative reviews of The Super Mario Bros. Movie stop them from enjoying it. They’re excited to see so many familiar characters and elements from the games brought to life on the big screen. A particular highlight is Jack Black’s performance as Bowser, who’s still a standout character, even though he has less screen time and appears smaller for part of the movie.

Jack Black was a standout in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, brilliantly portraying Bowser as both threatening and motivated by a genuine, though misguided, love for Princess Peach. While Peach’s role in his motivations is less emphasized in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, Bowser remains a funny and effective villain.

However, many fans were disappointed with King Koopa’s role in the new movie. A highlight of the first film was Bowser’s song, “Peaches,” and people hoped Jack Black would perform another musical number in the sequel, but that didn’t happen.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Doesn’t Give Jack Black Another Bowser Song

Many fans, including myself, were hoping to hear Bowser perform a song in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, but it’s a real letdown that he doesn’t sing at all. Throughout the entire film, Jack Black’s villain never gets a chance to express himself through music, even when it comes to love or other emotions.

Surprisingly, the end credits of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie don’t feature a special song. It would have been a great opportunity for Bowser to sing again, continuing the musical moments from the film. They could have even just asked Jack Black to write a new, fun song as himself, separate from the character.

The actor is clearly talented and creative. He showed everyone what a real Super Mario Galaxy Movie song could have sounded like when he and his fellow cast members performed “The Ballad of Mario” on Jimmy Fallon’s show.

Look, I’m a huge fan of Brian Tyler – whether it’s his original scores, his work with Donald Glover, or even the clever way he reimagined Britney Spears’ “One More Time” for Kung Fu Panda 4. But honestly, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie really missed a trick by not giving us another full, official Bowser song. It just feels like a lost opportunity!

The movie understands how popular “Peaches” is, so it brings the song back when Bowser is using bees. However, the moment is interrupted by Bowser Jr., and instead of hearing a brand new song later, the film ends leaving the audience wanting to hear more of Jack Black’s performance.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Had A Great Opportunity For Another Bowser Ballad

To make things more complicated, the story in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie easily sets up a continuation of Peach’s storyline. The first movie explained Bowser’s song by showing it was motivated by his feelings for Princess Peach, which was a key part of the plot. Now, the sequel focuses on Bowser’s relationship with his son, Bowser Jr., as his main motivation.

A song telling Bowser’s story would have fit perfectly within the film, especially during the flashback showing Bowser Jr. as a child. It could have played alongside, or instead of, the puppet show scene. This would have felt natural and added to the story, rather than seeming like a forced attempt to recreate the popularity of the song “Peaches” in a sequel.

Okay, so Bowser didn’t break into song in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which was a bit of a bummer! Now I’m really curious to see if they’ll let him sing in any future installments, or if that amazing musical moment was a one-time thing. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens next!
