‘The Super Mario Galaxy’ Movie Casts Donald Glover as Yoshi

Following the massive success of 2023’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which earned $1.36 billion globally, The Super Mario Bros. Galaxy is a highly anticipated sequel. The first trailer, released in late 2025, showed Mario, Luigi, and Princess Peach teaming up to stop Bowser and Bowser Jr. from threatening not just their world, but multiple galaxies. Chris Pratt, Charlie Day, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Jack Black will all return to voice their characters from the first film, and the story will introduce some new faces as well.

Yoshi, a popular character hinted at in a scene after the credits of the first movie, is set to play a big part in the new film. Fans have been eager to find out who would voice this beloved dinosaur, and that mystery has finally been solved.

In a Nintendo Direct presentation in March 2025, Nintendo revealed the final trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. They also announced that Donald Glover will be voicing the character Yoshi in the film.

Donald Glover’s impressive list of acting credits now includes a role in The Super Mario Bros. Movie. He’s recently appeared in Mr. and Mrs. Smith and Mufasa: The Lion King, and is also known for his work on Atlanta, Solo: A Star Wars Story, and Spider-Man: Homecoming.
