Be warned: This article reveals some minor plot details from the movie *The Strangers: Chapter 2*. If you haven’t watched it yet, you might want to stop reading now to avoid spoilers.
The *Strangers* movies are famous for their terrifying home invasion scenarios, where masked killers terrorize people in their own homes. However, *The Strangers: Chapter 2* takes a surprising turn. While leaning more into the slasher genre and challenging star Madelaine Petsch, the film also features an unexpected and shocking scene: a fight between the main character, Maya, and a furious wild boar.
Now that *The Strangers: Chapter 2* is in theaters – currently ranking fifth at the box office – I recently spoke with Madelaine Petsch about her role in the film. During our conversation, we discussed a challenging scene involving an animal attack. While the production didn’t actually use a real animal, Petsch explained that this made the scene even more impactful and increased her respect for the skills of digital effects artists.
It was a really intense experience, honestly. I’d never tackled anything like that before, so I felt incredibly intimidated walking onto the set. They had an actor in a black suit acting as the boar, and then our VFX team digitally removed him and created the actual boar – it was amazing to watch! I was completely blown away by the skill of our VFX artists; they’re incredibly talented.
A particularly discussed scene in *Strangers: Chapter 2* happens around the middle of the film. Maya, played by Petsch, is alone, hurt, and doesn’t trust anyone in the town of Venus, Oregon. While she’s desperately searching for the people who killed her boyfriend, she’s unexpectedly attacked – not by them, but by a boar determined to injure her.
The challenging scenes required Madelaine Petsch to be both creative and physically active, and she welcomed the opportunity. She found the experience rewarding and went on to say,
It was definitely tough, but honestly, I thrive on a good challenge, so I dove right in and had a blast. When else am I going to get the chance to do something like that again? It was a really unique experience, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
So, I just saw *The Strangers: Chapter 2*, and it’s interesting – this trilogy is really evolving! The first film was a pretty classic home invasion thriller, but this second chapter leans more into slasher territory. Apparently, Madelaine Petsch has hinted at another big shift in tone for the final film, though I’m not sure anything can top the wild boar attack we see in *Chapter 2*! We don’t have a release date for the third movie yet, but you can catch *Chapter 2* in theaters now.
