Alexi Hawley, the showrunner for The Rookie, has discussed the potential for a new romance between Celina and Miles in season 8. The season 8 premiere saw Lucy move in with Tim, creating a vacancy in her apartment. She then asked Miles if he’d be interested in becoming her new roommate.

During a conversation with ScreenRant’s Tatiana Hullender about the upcoming season 8 premiere of The Rookie, showrunner Alexi Hawley discussed the potential for a romantic relationship between Celina and Miles. He confirmed that, for now, their friendship will remain platonic. Hawley described them as an “odd couple” who value their independence and enjoy each other’s company without needing a romantic connection.

As a fan, I was so excited to see Chenford finally move in together! It was a great moment, and then Miles and Celina starting to live together came as a really fun surprise. Honestly, I’m curious to see where their relationship is going. Some people online are all about them being best friends forever, which is sweet, but then others – like me! – are really hoping for a romantic connection. It’s such a fun dynamic to watch unfold!

Alexi Hawley says the relationship between the characters is currently a close friendship, but could develop further if it serves the story. He emphasizes that he’s committed to building this relationship slowly and carefully, as he did with the pairing of Chen and Ford.

These two have a really great connection, similar to Selena and Aaron. It’s a lovely friendship, and doesn’t need to be anything more. He has a very distinct personality, especially with his Texas background, and she’s very independent. They’re an unusual pair, but they clearly enjoy each other’s company.

Celina and Miles developed a strong connection on the TV show The Rookie after Miles joined the LAPD as a new officer in season seven. They have very different backgrounds: Celina became a police officer to find out what happened to her sister who went missing, and Miles transferred from a Texas police department after an injury ended his college football career.

Although they had different personalities, Celina and Miles became close friends. Celina, as the newest member of the team, relied on Miles to show her how things worked, and she also helped him in return. Their friendship developed throughout the series, and she felt comfortable enough to let him move in with her at the start of season eight of The Rookie. However, any potential romance between them hasn’t really developed as much as some viewers might have expected.

Celina is dating Rodge, the lead singer of “Daddy Cop,” and he’s currently touring, which makes things difficult. Miles is single, but isn’t focused on finding a relationship at the moment. According to what Hawley said, it doesn’t look like either of them will be interested in each other romantically anytime soon.

Even though Lucy and Tim’s relationship developed over time – starting with Tim mentoring Lucy and eventually leading to a kiss in the finale – it doesn’t guarantee Celina and Miles will follow the same path. However, a romantic connection between them isn’t entirely out of the question down the road.

Currently, it doesn’t look like The Rookie intends to develop a romantic relationship between these characters. Fortunately, this should make their living arrangement more compelling, as it avoids a predictable plotline. Regardless, their friendship will likely deepen throughout the series.
