Dr. Robby has been intentionally distant with Langdon throughout the second season of “The Pitt.” He’s now explained his behavior, revealing that since Langdon returned to work after his drug abuse was exposed by Dr. Santos, Dr. Robby has avoided him – assigning him less important tasks and even physically avoiding him in the hallways – in an effort to minimize their interactions.
Since returning in season 2 of The Pitt, Langdon has consistently been genuine and easy to get along with. He’s handled everything Robby has challenged him with, and has been openly honest with his patients about what’s going on. Langdon has apologized to Louie, Dana, Mel, Robby, and others, and has accepted their reactions, which have varied from indifference to outright rejection.
Langdon Finally Has A Chance To Apologize To Robby In The Pitt Season 2, Episode 7
Over the last few episodes, the show has been subtly pushing Robby and Langdon to connect. They teamed up to try and save a patient, and after the emotional fallout of Louie’s death, they shared a deeper understanding of him than anyone else at the hospital. However, despite these moments, Robby still hasn’t seemed to warm up to Langdon.
In the seventh episode, Langdon got into an elevator to meet a patient arriving by helicopter, unaware that Robby was already inside. After a silent ride, Langdon took his chance to apologize when the noise of the helicopter was at its loudest. He confessed, “I’m sorry. I broke your trust, and the trust of our patients. I’m truly sorry, and it won’t happen again, I promise.”
The Real Reason Robby Doesn’t Want Langdon Working In The Hospital
Robby’s reply was surprisingly gentle, yet still direct and dismissive – perhaps even more so than Langdon expected. He simply stated, “I’m glad you got the help you needed, but I don’t think I want you working in my emergency room.” And it’s clear that’s exactly how he feels.
Considering their past, Robby and Langdon clearly have a lot to discuss. Although Robby came across as blunt, he seemed genuinely sincere, just like Langdon. He wasn’t dismissive of Langdon or doubtful about his recovery, but acknowledged that some wounds can’t be fully healed. Robby is typically excellent at remaining calm and handling sensitive situations with patients, but struggles to manage his own feelings.
From what we’ve seen of Robby’s relationships, he experiences strong emotions but tends to avoid dealing with them. Langdon has clearly hurt and betrayed Robby, damaging their friendship. While reconciliation is possible if both people work at it, Robby isn’t likely to be enthusiastic about trying.
Will Dr. Langdon Leave The Pitt?
It’s doubtful this will happen, and here’s why. First, the second season of The Pitt has consistently weakened Robby’s position, no matter his current or future feelings. Also, episode 7 explained the Westbridge hospital shutdown: it was caused by a cyberattack. To safeguard the hospital, Dr. Al-Hashimi authorized the CEO to disconnect all emergency room technology on her own.
Robby was annoyed he hadn’t been asked about this, a feeling he’s had every time Dr. Al-Hashimi seemed to undermine his authority as the clear leader of the emergency room. This pattern suggests Robby might not be able to control how long Langdon stays at the hospital, especially since Robby will be gone for three months.
The hospital is facing a new crisis similar to the shooting during Pittfest in the first season, when Robby couldn’t stop Langdon, even after revealing Langdon’s drug use. Now that the emergency room is switching to old-fashioned methods, everyone – including Langdon – will be needed to help.
