The Pitt Season 2 Just Introduced Dr. Collins’ Replacement

As a big fan of The Pitt, I was really curious about how they’d handle Dr. Collins’ absence in Season 2. It was definitely noticeable that Tracy Icheafor wasn’t back – she was such a vital part of the show, both at the hospital and, it seemed, in Dr. Robby’s life. But the new season wasted no time introducing Meta Golding as a new character who appears to be stepping into that role. We got a first look in the latest clip, and it looks like she’ll quickly become an important part of things, both professionally and personally for Dr. Robby.

Entertainment Online released a sneak peek from Season 2, Episode 2 of The Pitt, featuring Meta Golding as Noelle Hastings. The clip hints at a potential romance between her character and Dr. Robby. Nurse Hastings is introduced as a new administrator brought in to tackle the ongoing problem of overcrowding at The Pitt.

Just as Dr. McKay (played by Fiona Dourif, known from Season 1 and the show Chucky) and Dr. Robby were discussing sending a patient into surgery, Hastings arrived. Strangely, she initially called Robby “sailor” before quickly correcting herself and addressing him by his proper title as head of the Emergency Department.

Hastings proposed transferring McKay’s patient to Westbridge Memorial rather than keeping them at Pitt. Dr. Robby agreed, pointing out that this would both open up a bed at Pitt and allow a patient to be discharged. This decision was somewhat surprising coming from Robby, who typically prioritizes patient care over administrative concerns.

Despite McKay’s attempt to reverse the decision, Robby and Hastings seem to agree, with Hastings characterizing it as a straightforward insurance transfer.

The one-minute video strongly suggests a secret romance is developing between Dr. Robby and Nurse Hastings, something their colleagues (and the audience) haven’t discovered yet.

Nurse Hastings is now filling the role of romantic interest for Dr. Robby, similar to how Dr. Collins did. The show previously revealed that Robby and Collins had a history of unresolved feelings, and even after she confided in him about her miscarriage in Season 1’s ‘The Pitt,’ it was clear he still had feelings for her.

The character of Dr. Collins wasn’t featured in Season 2 of HBO Max’s The Pitt because the writers decided it was a natural point for her story arc to end. Her character, played by Tracy Ifeachor, had nearly finished her medical residency and would have logically moved on to a new position – perhaps another hospital or further training – by the time the events of Season 2 took place.

Season 2 of The Pitt takes place at Pittsburgh General Hospital, showing the challenges faced by doctors and nurses during a busy Fourth of July weekend. The season began streaming on HBO Max on January 8, 2026.

Is The Pitt Making a Mistake By Giving Dr. Robby a Love Interest?

In Season 2 of The Pitt, there’s an immediate connection between Dr. Robby and Nurse Hastings. This short clip suggests they’ve known each other for a while, as they seem comfortable and Dr. Robby quickly opens up to her. Even before they start talking, Nurse Hastings playfully calls him “sailor,” hinting at a pre-existing relationship.

Some viewers are questioning whether Dr. Robby in Season 2 of The Pitt needs a romantic storyline. They feel the show’s strength lies in its realistic portrayal of the hectic emergency room environment, and adding romance would feel forced and detract from that authenticity.

Dr. Robby faced several major plot points during the second season of The Pitt, including the unexpected arrival of Dr. Al-Hashimi as his replacement and Dr. Langdon’s return after a ten-month recovery. Introducing a romantic subplot for his character could distract from the season’s main goal: realistically portraying how healthcare is managed during times of crisis.

Even so, a romantic storyline could make Dr. Robby more relatable, but only if the show handles it carefully. The most important thing is to keep the focus on the patients and the relationships between the medical staff. For the romance to work, it needs to be a subtle part of the story, allowing Dr. Robby to remain the skilled and beloved doctor that viewers have come to appreciate.
