Season 2 of The Pitt has added a new character, potentially creating a rivalry for nurse Dana Evans (Katherine LaNasa). The series is building suspense, and as demonstrated in both seasons, The Pitt excels at escalating tension to a dramatic breaking point, in every sense of the word.
Last season, viewers watched Dana struggle to cope with the increasing chaos in the emergency room, and it became obvious she was reaching her breaking point. Throughout the season, it was unclear if she would return to Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center after her last shift. But when season 2 of The Pitt began, Dana was surprisingly back at work.
Throughout the second season of The Pitt, Dana has taken on a mentoring role, training new nurse Emma Nolan (Laetitia Hollard) on her first day. As Dana goes about her usual work while guiding Emma, we’re starting to see a more complex side to her character than we’ve seen before.
The latest episode of The Pitt season 2 showed a former hospital clerk stepping up to help regain control, and this could reveal a completely different side of Dana’s personality.
The Pitt Season 2 Episode 9 Introduces A Retired Hospital Clerk Named Monica
In the ninth episode of The Pitt season 2, titled “3:00 p.m.”, Monica Peters (played by Rusty Schwimmer), a previous hospital employee, comes back to the emergency room to assist as the situation worsens. Despite seeming like someone who chose to leave her job, Monica clarifies that she was actually laid off due to technological advancements – she never retired voluntarily.
Dana brought Monica to the emergency room, confident she could manage the expected holiday rush without computers. Monica is incredibly skilled at keeping the ER running efficiently, coordinating staff and patient care when things get hectic – she’s essentially the key to reverting to a manual system. She’s excellent at fixing problems, but her strong personality can be a bit much for others.
The Pitt’s Monica Is Played By TV Vet Rusty Schwimmer
You might not know her name, but you’ve likely seen Judy Schwimmer in action, especially if you watch the show The Pitt. She’s been a working actress for over thirty years, starting back in 1988, and has become a familiar face in many TV shows and movies. Though she began her career performing theater in Chicago, she’s best known for her work on screen.
David Schwimmer is a well-known actor with a long history on television, appearing in popular shows like Six Feet Under, Grey’s Anatomy, Better Call Saul, and the recent Apple TV series The Last Frontier. He even had a role on the original ER, the show that paved the way for The Pitt. Schwimmer is particularly praised for his ability to fully embody each character and adapt to the needs of any story.
Monica Is Even More Intense Than Dana In The Pitt
Even though Monica has only appeared briefly in The Pitt—for about half an episode—she immediately comes across as a much more forceful personality than Dana. Throughout the first season, Dana showed her strength by confidently interacting with doctors and collaborating with the nursing staff to deliver excellent patient care. However, Monica is even more intense.
From the moment she arrived, Monica was known for being a no-nonsense leader who gets things done. She didn’t come to make friends, but to improve the emergency room. She quickly focused on making the department run more smoothly and bringing a sense of calm to the often chaotic environment.
Dana asserts control by skillfully using her connections, while Monica immediately takes charge and expects everyone to follow her lead. Fortunately, she also has a calming presence. When Monica takes a moment to praise Emma, it shows that even in a place like The Pitt, unexpected kindness can still be found.
