‘The Paparazzi Were So Ruthless Back Then’: Megan Fox Remembers Brutal Comments Made About Her At Premiere

Megan Fox has often spoken honestly about her experiences in Hollywood, and recently she shared some particularly raw thoughts. After a screening of her popular film, Jennifer’s Body, she discussed the emotional difficulties she faced during her rise to fame and how those struggles affected the making of the now-classic horror movie.

After a screening of Jennifer’s Body at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures (according to People magazine), the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles actress shared with the audience that she had a difficult time promoting the film in 2009. She criticized the entertainment industry and the paparazzi for their tough treatment of young women at the time.

Looking back, I wouldn’t really give my younger self advice. I was in such a strange place then – completely lost, honestly, and just brimming with anger about how I’d been treated in Hollywood and how I was coping with everything that came with fame. All of that was swirling around before we even started shooting.

Megan Fox remembers a particularly unpleasant experience at the premiere of Jennifer’s Body. She said paparazzi crowded the exit and yelled at her as she attempted to leave the event.

I just came from a premiere, one of those events I feel like I have to attend, and it really brought back memories. I remembered how awful the paparazzi used to be – the things they’d yell at women were just brutal. I was literally just trying to get to my car, and they were all snapping pictures and shouting questions. One guy actually yelled, ‘Megan, why are you such a bitch?’ And another one was like, ‘Megan, do you think you’re overrated? Everyone on the internet says you are!’ It was so frustrating, I was just trying to do my job.

The actress, 39, described feeling both deeply saddened and angry after experiencing those events, and she used those emotions to help her portray the cheerleading succubus. She explained that being able to act out and be unpredictable during filming actually helped her work through her personal struggles.

I received an invitation to the premiere and was attempting to leave when I realized I was overwhelmed with sadness, anger, and frustration. The experience of filming allowed me to freely express those intense emotions, even between scenes, which was incredibly helpful and relieving.

The former Hope & Faith star felt a strong connection to her character in Jennifer’s Body, a young woman who made sacrifices for others and became someone people were afraid of. She explained that the story resonated with her own experience as a young actress suddenly thrust into the spotlight and exploited by the entertainment industry. Ironically, while Jennifer’s Body initially failed at the box office, it has since become a beloved cult classic, and the joke’s on everyone else.

After over fifteen years, the movie Jennifer’s Body is finally gaining the recognition it deserves, and there’s even talk of a sequel. Both the screenwriter, Diablo Cody, and star Amanda Seyfried have hinted at the possibility, with Seyfried expressing enthusiasm about reprising her role as Needy. While the film may have initially been a personal project for Megan Fox, it’s now clear that the story continues to connect with a large audience.

Megan Fox is joining the cast of Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, where she’ll be the voice of the character Cica. The movie is scheduled to be released on December 5, 2025.
