Marvel Zombies depicts a brutal fight for survival, with only a handful of heroes remaining after the events of Season 1. This new animated series from Marvel Studios continues the story begun in Marvel’s *What If…?*, focusing on a universe overrun by zombies where many Avengers have fallen victim to the virus.
The movie was a wildly violent and profanity-filled superhero adventure – exactly what the head of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, wanted. It didn’t shy away from intense action and even killed off some of the MCU’s most beloved characters.
Despite some challenges, Season 1 of the animated series didn’t lose many of its main characters. While a few super-powered heroes didn’t make it to the end, the overall outcome wasn’t entirely negative.
You can now watch all of *Marvel Zombies* on Disney+. The show follows Kamala Khan (played by Iman Vellani) as she tries to find a cure for a zombie outbreak on Earth. During her journey, she meets familiar faces from the Marvel Cinematic Universe – heroes like Shang-Chi, Yelena Belova, Scarlet Witch, and Spider-Man – some of whom are already zombies!
Who Survived Marvel Zombies?
Kamala Khan
Kamala Khan, also known as Ms. Marvel, appeared in every episode of the *Marvel Zombies* series. She’s essentially the main character, and the show follows her journey to save her world from a zombie outbreak.
The first season concludes with Kamala apparently defeating the powerful Scarlet Witch, also known as the Queen of the Dead, and finding herself back in a reality where her friends survived and everything is now peaceful.
However, this relief is short-lived. The ending hints that Scarlet Witch might still be out there, and it’s possible Ms. Marvel is trapped in one of her illusions, which could lead to a second season.
Riri Williams
Okay, so at the very end of *Marvel Zombies*, they give us this quick glimpse that Riri Williams might still be kicking. It’s super fast – you see her for just a split second, battling a ton of zombies and desperately trying to get Kamala Khan’s attention. It definitely hints she’s out there somewhere, still fighting!
It appears Kamala is now in a false reality, while heroes like Riri Williams continue to battle Scarlet Witch and her army of the undead in the real world.
If *Zombies* gets another season, Riri Williams will probably be important in helping her super-powered friend recover from the spell cast by Scarlet Witch.
Scarlet Witch
Despite Kamala Khan’s efforts to defeat the Scarlet Witch (also known as the Queen of the Dead), she didn’t achieve the victory she hoped for.
At the very end of the episode, cracks began to appear in the world Kamala had created, suggesting it might all be an illusion cast by a powerful, resurrected sorceress.
The series concludes with a close-up of Scarlet Witch’s face, strongly suggesting she lived through her battle with Kamala and the others.
Nova Corps
In the *Marvel Zombies* series, the Nova Corps are among the few heroic groups that survive with minimal damage. Throughout the story, Kamala Khan, a young Avenger, believes that reaching out to this intergalactic space force could be the solution to Earth’s zombie problem.
However, things don’t go as planned. When Kamala and her team reach orbit to send out a distress signal, they’re surprised by a fleet of Nova Corps ships already stationed there. It’s revealed that the Nova Corps have been monitoring Earth and have essentially placed it under quarantine, destroying anything that tries to enter or leave.
Following a quick chase in space between the Nova Corps and Kamala’s Avengers, the Nova Corps decided to stand down and pull back their forces.
Hulk
Unlike many heroes in *Marvel Zombies*, it’s unclear what happened to Hulk. Because the series doesn’t show him dying, most fans believe he survived the first season.
Hulk shows up in the series seemingly able to help Kamala with her unusual situation. He transforms into the incredibly strong Infinity Hulk, a version of himself powered up by all five Infinity Stones.
Although he struggles against the zombie horde in the final episode of *Marvel Zombies*, his incredible power suggests he might be one of the few characters left alive.
Spider-Man
In the new installment of *Marvel Zombies*, Spider-Man (with Hudson Thames providing the voice) is a key character. He’s back as one of the original zombie survivors from Season 1 of *What If…?*, teaming up with Scott Lang and Black Panther.
In the show’s final episode, he leaps into the battle against the undead, swinging through the ruined world and participating in some incredibly intense and violent scenes – including some shockingly graphic zombie takedowns.
As Kamala battles the Scarlet Witch in a final showdown, Spider-Man’s survival is uncertain. The last we see of him, he’s facing a giant, zombie Wasp, but the scene cuts away before we know what happens, leaving his fate a mystery.
Katy
Awkwafina is back as Katy in a new animated series, teaming up with her martial arts mentor, Shang-Chi, to battle an army of the undead.
She possesses five of Shang-Chi’s ten powerful rings, making them a formidable team in battle. Though Shang-Chi is defeated by the Undead Queen’s army in the final episode, Katy’s outcome remains uncertain.
In the final moments of the series, the camera briefly shows her as Kalama decides if she’ll give in to the Scarlet Witch. She appears to be successfully defending against the attacking forces at that moment, but it’s unclear if she could hold them off for long.
Scott Lang’s Head
Kamala’s final visitor before she chooses to side with or oppose the Scarlet Witch is Scott Lang-specifically, just his head.
Ant-Man’s head, previously seen in Season 1 of *What If…?*, makes a return appearance in *Marvel Zombies*, attached to Doctor Strange’s levitating cloak and assisting in the battle against the zombie horde.
During the show’s final action sequence, viewers see the hero struggling as zombies pull on his cape, leaving what happens to him uncertain. If Kamala successfully defeated the Scarlet Witch, he likely escaped too.
Ikaris
During a rare fight between zombies in the show, Ikaris (Richard Madden, from the 2021 movie *Eternals*) battles Captain Marvel, who also has superpowers as a zombie.
Okay, so during the finale, these two characters had a huge fight, but the show didn’t actually *show* either of them dying. As a fan, I’m taking that as a pretty strong hint they both made it! It’s a little weird to say ‘survive’ when we’re talking about zombies, but I’m hoping they’re still out there somewhere.
Captain Marvel
The final episode of *Marvel Zombies* reveals Carol Danvers, also known as Captain Marvel, as the powerful opponent in the boxing match.
Carol Danvers, reprising her role after appearing in 2023’s *The Marvels*, fights a thrilling battle against Ikaris, pitting the Avengers against the Eternals. The outcome of the fight remains unresolved, and it’s unclear if Carol survives.
