The Next Black Panther? Sleeper Choice for MCU Casting Has Emerged

The death of Chadwick Boseman, who brilliantly played King T’Challa and Black Panther, is still deeply felt. It’s been challenging for Marvel to find an actor who can fill his shoes, and understandably so. However, Damson Idris might be the perfect choice to take on the role.

Idris Elba is quickly becoming a fan favorite to take on the role of Black Panther in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it’s easy to understand why. A recent photo surfaced online showing him with Angela Bassett, who plays Queen Ramonda in the Black Panther films, at a Vogue World event in Hollywood, fueling the excitement.

Naomi Bassett looked stunning in a Ramonda-inspired outfit, and Idris Elba accompanied her, beaming widely. This only fueled speculation that he might be the next actor to play Black Panther, especially since neither he nor anyone else has tried to deny the rumors.

There’s simply no unseeing it now.

After gaining widespread recognition from the FX series Snowfall, Damson Idris recently acted alongside Brad Pitt, holding his own against the established star. Many believe he’s the perfect choice to play Black Panther in the next film, directed by Ryan Coogler. He has the talent and presence to embody the character, and importantly, wouldn’t be replacing Chadwick Boseman’s portrayal of a young T’Challa, allowing him to bring a fresh take to the role.

The One True Heir to Wakanda

After Chadwick Boseman’s passing, director Ryan Coogler wrote his character, T’Challa, out of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever as a tribute. This led to Shuri, played by Letitia Wright, reluctantly stepping up to fight Namor, also known as Kukulkan, and portrayed by Tenoch Huerta. In the end, Shuri was shown by Nakia, played by Lupita Nyong’o and a Wakandan spy who was also T’Challa’s love interest, to their young son, who is the rightful heir to the Wakandan throne.

To honor the late King T’Challa, Shuri’s nephew has also been named T’Challa. It’s important to remember this as the story unfolds in Black Panther 3 – the new T’Challa will be a prince taking the throne, not a return of Chadwick Boseman’s character. If director Ryan Coogler chooses this direction, reports that Idris Elba is being considered for the role would likely create a huge wave of excitement among fans, eager to see his take on the character, potentially leading into Avengers: Secret Wars. Currently, Shuri holds the Black Panther title, but a good aunt – and one remembering Killmonger’s perspective – would naturally support the future king.

Black Panther 3 is reportedly scheduled for worldwide theatrical release in 2028.
