As a huge movie fan, I’m really excited to hear that The Mummy Returns is coming back to theaters! It’s been over twenty years since it first came out, and Universal just announced it’s getting a rerelease with a new poster and a teaser trailer. I can’t wait to experience all the action and adventure on the big screen again – it’s going to be a great way to celebrate the film’s anniversary.
The Mummy Returns is back in theaters in March
To celebrate its 25th anniversary, The Mummy Returns will be back in theaters starting March 27th. It will be shown for at least a week, but tickets are expected to sell out fast due to high interest. Universal Pictures also released a new trailer, bringing back the excitement for this popular early 2000s action movie.
After the first Mummy movie blew up in 1999 – seriously, Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz were amazing in that adventure – everyone was clamoring for a sequel. And it wasn’t hard to see why, considering the first one made over $415 million at the box office on an $80 million budget! It was a huge hit.
Following the success of the first film, The Mummy Returns broadened the story’s universe and launched Dwayne Johnson’s film career with his role as The Scorpion King – one of his first acting jobs after wrestling. The movie was a big hit when it came out, earning $443 million worldwide. Recent anniversary showings could push its total earnings past $450 million.
The Mummy series didn’t end with the 2001 movie. Brendan Fraser reprised his role in The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor in 2008, and a completely new version with Tom Cruise and Russell Crowe was released later on. Despite these newer films, fans still prefer the original movies starring Fraser.
The celebration doesn’t end with the anniversary re-release! Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are officially set to star in a new Mummy movie, currently planned for release on May 19, 2028. Though details about the story and other actors are still secret, with both the original Mummy Returns getting a re-release and a new film on the way, fans are thrilled.
