Viewers hoping for another epic like Yellowstone when The Madison arrives on March 14, 2026, might be disappointed. Despite the excitement surrounding Taylor Sheridan’s new series—and the draw of stars Michelle Pfeiffer and Kurt Russell—it will have fewer episodes than any other show related to the Yellowstone universe.
This March, The Madison is debuting on Paramount+ with only a few episodes, a strategy quite different from the highly anticipated Yellowstone spin-off Marshals, which premiered on CBS. Marshals has over twice as many episodes and will air weekly until the end of May. It raises the question: will audiences prefer the shorter, focused The Madison, or the longer, more consistent run of Marshals?
‘The Madison’ is the Most Abbreviated ‘Yellowstone’ Spin-off Thus Far
Created by Taylor Sheridan, The Madison is a new Western-style drama featuring Michelle Pfeiffer and Kurt Russell. They play Stacy and Preston Clyburn, a couple from New York who move to Montana after experiencing a terrible loss. While trying to heal, they adjust to a quieter life in the countryside and learn to appreciate the beauty of nature.
Even though The Madison had a glamorous premiere, it’s set to become the shortest Yellowstone spin-off ever made. The show will only have six episodes – the first three will be available on March 14th, and the last three on March 21st – making it a quick watch that viewers will finish in a single sitting.
For five seasons, Yellowstone successfully balanced length and storytelling, with each season from 2 through 4 consisting of 10 episodes, alongside the popular miniseries 1883. While the 1923 spin-off had shorter seasons of eight and then seven episodes, the upcoming series The Madison will be even more concise – it’s shaping up to be the shortest TV season Taylor Sheridan has created so far.
Although it’s a shame The Madison seems to be taking a less prominent role than Marshals, it’s good that Taylor Sheridan wrote all six episodes and Christina Alexandra Voros, who has worked on this series before, directed them. This should ensure a consistent story and a clear, unified creative vision.
‘Marshals’ Takes a Broader Network TV Approach to Draw Appeal

CBS
While Paramount+ is releasing its new show, The Madison’s, one episode per week, CBS is planning a longer run for its spin-off, Marshals. This series follows Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) as he works with the U.S. Marshals to keep Montana safe from dangerous criminals. Marshals will air on CBS from March 1st to May 24th, 2026, with a new episode premiering each Sunday.

It looks like Marshals is getting more attention than The Madison, with a longer run of thirteen episodes spread over two months. This is likely because Kayce Dutton, a central figure in Marshals, has a more significant role in the Dutton family’s story than the characters in The Madison. Plus, The Madison is now confirmed to be a limited series, not directly connected to the main Yellowstone plot (according to THR). Fans eager for The Madison might be frustrated by its short length, but the good news is that Season 2, with six more episodes, has already been filmed.
The two new Yellowstone spin-offs are trying different approaches to releasing episodes, which brings up the debate about whether fewer, high-quality episodes are better than a larger number. It’s unclear if The Madison, with its shorter six-episode run and big-name stars, will be more successful than Marshals, which has thirteen episodes. However, The Madison seems like the more promising option, especially as a streaming series featuring two highly acclaimed actors.
