Ahead of its third season, The Last of Us is replacing one of its key characters. According to Variety, Danny Ramirez, who played Manny, won’t be returning to the HBO series due to conflicts with his filming schedule. Manny is a former Firefly who appeared in the show seeking revenge against Joel (Pedro Pascal).
When HBO announced the casting of Ramirez as Manny, they described him as a dedicated and optimistic character who secretly struggles with past trauma and worries about letting down those he cares about. Manny is a friend of Abby (played by Kaitlyn Dever) and helps her pursue revenge against Joel for the events that concluded the first season of The Last of Us.
It’s unclear exactly what project is taking Ramirez away from The Last of Us. However, Avengers: Doomsday is a likely possibility, as he’s already confirmed to return as the Falcon (Joaquin Torres) in the movie. He might be needed back on set for additional filming, or he could also appear as the Falcon in Avengers: Secret Wars.
HBO hasn’t yet said who will take over the role of Manny in Season 3 of The Last of Us. Production on the new season is scheduled to start in March 2026.
