The Last Frontier Debuts With Disappointing Rotten Tomatoes Score

I’ve been a huge fan of everything this streamer has put out – shows like *Severance* and *Slow Horses* were incredible, both getting amazing scores – 95% and 96% on Rotten Tomatoes! So, I was really excited for their newest drama-thriller, but unfortunately, it didn’t get off to as strong a start with the critics.

The new series *The Last Frontier*, created by Jon Bokenkamp and Richard D’Ovidio, will begin streaming on Apple TV+ on October 17th. The show centers around U.S. Marshal Frank Remnick (played by Jason Clarke) and the chaos that ensues when a plane carrying dangerous prisoners crashes in Alaska. Before its first season even airs, *The Last Frontier* has received a 57% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes.

Early reviews for *The Last Frontier* on Rotten Tomatoes are in, and they’re quite mixed, with only seven critics having weighed in so far. Clint Worthington of RogerEbert.com noted that while the show starts with exciting action, it becomes slow and drawn-out as the season progresses, similar to other shows on Apple TV+. Karina Adelgaard of Heaven of Horror felt the show suffers from having too many characters and storylines.

Jean Henegan from Pop Culture Maniacs gave AppleTV+’s new thriller, *The Last Frontier*, a lukewarm review, praising the strong cast but wishing the storyline was better. She felt the talented actors deserved a more compelling show. Jeff Ewing, however, found the series to be an exciting and unpredictable thriller, highlighting Jason Clarke’s excellent performance and the clever, ever-changing plot.

CBR’s Take on The Last Frontier

The reviewer acknowledged the series appeared promising but ultimately felt it didn’t offer thriller fans anything truly original, aside from its beautiful scenery. They did praise the locations, noting they were stunning and effectively created the feeling of isolation that the story needed to succeed.

Patton noted similarities between *The Last Frontier* and other films. He pointed out that the plane crash scene felt like *Con Air*, and a chase involving a vehicle mirrored a memorable stunt from *Jurassic Park: The Lost World*. Furthermore, early in the series, Jason Clarke’s character, U.S. Marshal Frank Remnick, delivers a line very similar to Tommy Lee Jones’s famous speech in *The Fugitive*.

I’m really excited about *The Last Frontier* coming to Apple TV+ on October 17th! The cast looks fantastic – alongside Clarke, you’ve got Simone Kessell, Haley Bennett, Dominic Cooper, Dallas Goldtooth, Tait Blum, and the amazing Alfre Woodard. It’s shaping up to be a great watch!
