The Flash & Wonder Woman Get Key DCU Update From James Gunn

James Gunn discussed the potential appearances of The Flash and Wonder Woman within the context of Peacemaker during Episode 6 of his podcast. He offered some insights into when these characters might be introduced within the series, suggesting that we can expect to see them in the DC Universe at some point.

James Gunn on whether The Flash and Wonder Woman were canon in Peacemaker

During the discussion, co-host Steve Agee pointed out that children in a scene from Season 1 referenced two characters, to which James Gunn replied, “Well, are these characters established in the storyline? I’m not sure. We’ll find out as we progress. They will indeed come into existence at some point; whether they exist currently, I can’t say for certain.

In simple terms, this statement means that it was the first time Gunn publicly commented on the current Flash character in the DC Universe (DCU) since the reboot started. Previously, Gunn had clarified that Ezra Miller’s appearance as the Flash in the Season 1 finale of the show, alongside the Justice League, was not part of the official DCU storyline.

As a fan following the DC Extended Universe (DCEU), I’ve witnessed The Flash (2023) being the last film featuring this speedy hero before the DC Universe (DCU) reboot. Already, hints of a new speedster have been dropped, like the Max Mercury mural in Superman, and we’ve met our first live-action Man of Steel, portrayed by David Corenswet. Previously, director James Gunn mentioned that both The Flash and Aquaman wouldn’t be part of the DCU for at least two years. This interval provides a nice separation between their DCEU appearances and anticipated introductions in the new DCU.

According to Gunn’s comments, it seems that Wonder Woman could show up in the DC Universe, but her character might be different from the well-known Amazonian warrior we saw in the DCEU. A new project featuring Wonder Woman is currently being worked on under the leadership of Gunn and Peter Safran at DC Studios.

According to reports from @MyTimeToShineH, it’s rumored that the cameo of the Justice League from Season 1 in Peacemaker will be swapped out for the Justice Gang in Season 2, debuting in Superman (2025). In the revised scenes, Mister Terrific, Superman, Supergirl, Green Lantern, and Hawkgirl are expected to make an appearance, with only Hawkgirl and Green Lantern clearly visible. Instead of the conversation between Aquaman and Flash, a comedic scene featuring Peacemaker, Green Lantern, and Hawkgirl will take its place.

As a devoted cinephile, I’m thrilled to share that the second season of Peacemaker is set to return, and I can’t contain my excitement! The stellar cast from the first season is back, including John Cena, Jennifer Holland, Freddie Stroma, Steve Agee, and Danielle Brooks. Mark your calendars because this action-packed series will hit HBO Max on August 21, 2025!
