A24 has just dropped the first trailer for Olivia Wilde’s latest movie, The Invite. It’s been almost four years since her last film, Don’t Worry Darling, and this new comedy, featuring a well-known cast, could be A24’s next blockbuster.
Olivia Wilde directs and stars in “The Invite” with Seth Rogen, Penélope Cruz, and Edward Norton. The film, written by Rashida Jones and Will McCormack, centers on a couple, Angela (Wilde) and Joe (Rogen), who are struggling in their relationship. They invite their vibrant neighbors, Pína (Cruz) and Hawk (Norton), over for dinner, and the night takes a turn when the neighbors extend an invitation that could either save or destroy Angela and Joe’s relationship. You can watch the trailer below.
The Invite is a reimagining of the 2020 Spanish film, The People Upstairs. Originally announced in 2021, the film was initially going to be directed by the team behind Little Miss Sunshine, Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, and star Amy Adams, Paul Rudd, and Tessa Thompson. However, Olivia Wilde later took on the directing role in 2025, making it her third directorial project after Booksmart (2019) and Don’t Worry Darling (2022). She also cast Seth Rogen, with whom she’d recently worked on an episode of his comedy series, The Studio, where she played a fictionalized version of herself.
The movie debuted at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival and immediately attracted intense interest from major distributors like Netflix, Neon, Apple TV, Black Bear Entertainment, and Sony Pictures. A24 and Focus Features competed for the rights, and despite a late offer from Warner Bros., A24 ultimately secured distribution for $12 million. Early reviews from Sundance have been very positive, with The Invite currently holding a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 24 reviews.
A24 will release The Invite in select theaters on June 26, 2026, the same weekend as the wide release of Supergirl. Releasing a Sundance comedy in the middle of summer has proven successful for A24 since Napoleon Dynamite in 2004, with films like Little Miss Sunshine, (500) Days of Summer, and Thelma following suit. Given A24’s recent success with romantic comedies that also explore dramatic themes – such as Materialist and The Drama – The Invite has the potential to be another popular film for the company.
