The new show is the latest series from , adding to the growing collection of TV programs available on Paramount+. As with many of ‘s projects, it features a star-studded cast in a family drama with a Western feel. Michelle Pfeiffer stars as Stacy Clyburn, and plays her husband, Preston. However, production on the second season of the Godzilla series nearly caused significant issues for this show.
Russell recently told Entertainment Weekly that he nearly had to drop out of The Madison due to his work on the Apple TV+ MonsterVerse series. Fortunately, Taylor Sheridan and Michelle Pfeiffer found a solution that allowed him to do both.
I worked on the second season of Apple TV’s Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, but unfortunately, it conflicted with another project. When the opportunity for Madison came up, I had to decline because I was already committed to filming that show.
Michelle Pfeiffer and Taylor convinced Paramount+ to expand the show from one season to two. They proposed filming Kurt’s scenes first, essentially making them the first season, before beginning production on the originally planned second season next year. This allowed them to feature Kurt’s storyline early on and then move forward with the rest of the series.
It’s unusual because, officially, The Madison isn’t scheduled to debut on Paramount+ until March 14th, and a second season hasn’t been officially approved yet. However, this is the second time rumors have surfaced that Season 2 is already finished filming – actress Elle Chapman hinted at it last month. MovieWeb reached out to Paramount+ for confirmation, but hasn’t received a response yet.
Kurt Russell Is Thankful to be in ‘The Madison’

It’s common for scheduling issues to cause recasting, but it appears Taylor Sheridan was determined to have Jeremy Renner in his show, and Renner is glad he fought for him. The actor continued to speak highly of Sheridan, calling him a fantastic writer, and predicted Michelle Pfeiffer would receive award recognition for her work on the series.
I was thrilled with that news, as I’m a big fan of “The Madison.” It’s a clever and well-written show, and Taylor is an excellent writer. Michelle is fantastic, and she truly shines in this role. I think Michelle is a strong contender for any awards they might be giving out.
Russell believes the show’s success isn’t about the actors – a talented group including Beau Garrett, Matthew Fox, Patrick J. Adams, and Will Arnett – but rather the strong writing of Taylor Sheridan.
Honestly, everything about the project was great, but Sheridan’s writing really grabbed me. It felt like a totally different role for Taylor – a show really seen through a female lens. And it was just so well-written, it was a blast to work on! I genuinely had a really good time.
The new series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters will premiere on Apple TV on February 27th, and The Madison will be available to stream on Paramount+ starting March 14th.
