Video games are more popular than ever, but the idea isn’t recent. Classic open-world games like the original The Legend of Zelda have been around for decades, though not all of them were hits when they first came out.

Some games, like Dragon’s Dogma, slowly gained popularity, but Fallout: New Vegas experienced a remarkable comeback. Although it initially suffered from bugs and flawed enemy behavior, it has since become a beloved game, and many consider it to be one of the best open-world role-playing games ever made.

Fallout: New Vegas Followed the Game That Put the Franchise On the Map

The original Fallout games were well-regarded computer role-playing games, but the series became incredibly popular with the release of Fallout 3. This was the first Fallout game made by Bethesda, and it included new features that fans loved, such as the VATS system, which combined action-based and turn-based fighting.

Once the initial technical issues were fixed, people started to really enjoy the game. While the ruined Las Vegas environment was beautifully designed, players especially loved the captivating story.

As a gamer, I always loved how New Vegas took everything great about Fallout 3 and just ran with it. Seriously, every decision you made mattered. It wasn’t just about picking different dialogue options; you really felt like you were shaping the story and the world around you. Whether you wanted to be a saint or a total scoundrel, even betraying everyone you met, New Vegas delivered an ending that felt earned and truly reflected the choices I made. It was so satisfying!

Although Fallout: New Vegas is over 15 years old and starting to show its age, it remains a fantastic role-playing game. Its detailed story and the unique VATS combat system make it one of the best of its era.

Fallout: New Vegas makes you feel like your choices truly matter, whether you’re following the main story or exploring side quests, and the conversations are surprisingly detailed. While the game had issues when it first came out, it’s since become a beloved classic and is now considered one of the greatest open-world RPGs of all time, earning its overwhelmingly positive reception on Steam.
