As a big fan of the *Conjuring* films, I’m excited to hear they’re making another sequel – especially to one of the lesser-known entries, and the title is just perfect! The *Conjuring* universe has grown so much since the original 2013 movie, exploring all sorts of scary cases investigated by Ed and Lorraine Warren. There’s been some debate amongst fans about where *The Curse of La Llorona* fits in, with some not considering it a true part of the shared story, but it’s still interesting to see where they’re taking things.
As a big fan of these movies, I’ve seen a lot of debate about where *La Llorona* fits in the overall story. The return of Father Perez from *Annabelle* definitely suggests it’s connected! Even though *The Conjuring: Last Rites* was supposed to be the end, it looks like the universe isn’t quite finished. We’re getting another *La Llorona* movie, so clearly there’s more story to tell.
According to entertainment news reporter Daniel Richtman, a follow-up to the movie *The Curse of La Llorona* is being made, tentatively titled *The Revenge of La Llorona*. This title fits well, as it reflects the core of the character’s story. La Llorona is a ghost said to be the spirit of a mother who, driven by jealousy and rage over her husband’s infidelity, drowned her children.
The title’s use of ‘revenge’ works on two levels. It refers to La Llorona’s general desire for vengeance as a ghost, but also suggests she specifically seeks retribution against Anna’s family, who previously overcame her in the first film.
Filming is scheduled to start next month in Buffalo, New York. The production team is currently looking for a boy between 12 and 15 years old to play Antonio, a key supporting role. The character is described as someone who is determined to be courageous and protect his family.
Additional casting information revealed he will play the oldest child of the newly introduced characters, Luisa and Diego. Antonio is described as a reserved character who deeply feels and internalizes his family’s worries.
James Wan produced and Santiago Menghini directed *The Revenge of La Llorona*, with a screenplay by Sean Tretta.
Michael Chaves directed the first film, *The Curse of La Llorona*, which was released in theaters on April 19, 2019. The movie features Linda Cardellini, Raymond Cruz, and Patricia Velasquez.
The Revenge of La Llorona Could Finally Explore Its Conjuring Connections
I’m really excited about *The Revenge of La Llorona* because it feels like it could do so much more with the legend of La Llorona herself, and also connect things even further to the other stories in *The Conjuring* universe. I think it has a lot of potential to build on what we already know and love.
Although we probably won’t see Ed and Lorraine Warren again, especially after their story seemed to conclude in *The Conjuring: Last Rites*, there’s a possibility other characters could return. This could include an older Judy Warren or Father Gordon, depending on when the new movie takes place.
The movie appears to center around a new family, and it’s likely that Antonio’s younger siblings will be the main targets of the ghost, La Llorona. This makes sense, as La Llorona is determined to replace the children she tragically drowned years ago with two new ones.
It’s also possible we’ll see Anna’s family return from the first movie, since they know how to stop someone like La Llorona when she seeks revenge.
Finally, *The Revenge of La Llorona* could be officially connected to the wider *Conjuring* universe. The film could achieve this by mentioning previous investigations by the Warrens, like the hauntings at Perron and Smurls, effectively making it a part of the established *Conjuring* storyline.
