As a huge fan of The Boys on Prime Video, I’m thrilled to hear it’s coming back for a final season! But I’m also really curious to see how the prequel, with Jensen Ackles in it, will carve out its own identity. Will it feel as fresh and shocking as the original? That’s what I’m wondering!
The TV series The Boys is adapted from the comic book series by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, which originally ran for 72 issues between 2006 and 2012. It’s a darkly humorous show about a group of people who try to uncover the corruption of Vought International, a company that controls a team of powerful superheroes.
Homelander (Antony Starr), the incredibly powerful hero, is becoming unstoppable, and Hughie (Jack Quaid) and Butcher (Karl Urban) are determined to bring his reign of terror to an end. Later seasons introduced Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles), the original celebrity superhero from World War II, who is surprisingly Homelander’s biological father.
The upcoming prequel, Vought Rising, will include characters Soldier Boy and Stormfront (played by Aya Cash). At Emerald City Comic Con, Laz Alonso, who plays Mother’s Milk, discussed worries fans have about the future of the show and how it will be different from other content in The Boys universe.
Everything – the fashion, the music, even the political jokes – will reflect the time period. Be prepared for some pretty unfiltered humor, which is saying a lot for a show like ours.
The show The Boys is famous for its edgy and sometimes shocking humor. However, comments from a producer suggest the upcoming prequel, Vought Rising, might take things even further. Set in the 1950s, Vought Rising will explore the origins of Vought International with characters like Clara Vought/Stormfront and Soldier Boy as they investigate a murder. While a release date hasn’t been announced, filming started last year, so we can likely expect the series to premiere in late 2026 or 2027.
The superhero satire The Boys has become a huge hit for Prime Video. The fourth season attracted over 55 million viewers globally in its first month, even surpassing the popularity of some Marvel shows on Disney+. With a strong 93% audience approval rating, fans are eagerly awaiting the show’s final season.
The Boys is available to stream on Prime Video, including its spin-off series Gen V.
