The Boys Showrunner Reacts To Insane Donald Trump Parallel In Final Season

The Boys is becoming a little too real.

The final season of Prime Video’s hit show, The Boys, is now being released, and viewers are preparing for a wild and violent conclusion. The series, known for its dark humor and sharp commentary, has become incredibly popular around the world, even surpassing Marvel shows in streaming rankings. It features a talented cast including Antony Starr, Jack Quaid, Karl Urban, Erin Moriarty, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford, Karen Fukuhara, and Jensen Ackles.

Season 5 of The Boys has drawn attention for its striking similarities to current events, most notably a golden statue resembling Donald Trump – but in the show, it’s a statue of the character Homelander (played by Antony Starr). Viewers have often noted parallels between Homelander and Trump throughout the series. Showrunner Eric Kripke reacted to this coincidence on Instagram, expressing his astonishment with a surprised message.

Jared Padalecki, who plays Mother’s Milk on The Boys, responded to a social media post, suggesting that scripts from the show may have been leaked. This isn’t the first time events in The Boys have mirrored real-world news. For example, a storyline in the final season, where Homelander transports Starlight’s supporters to camps, has drawn comparisons to detention centers used by former President Trump for immigrants.

A striking similarity emerged between the show and real-world events when Homelander, after a revealing vision, began to see himself as a god – an arc that unfolded in the episode “Every One of You Sons of Bitches.” This mirrored a post by Donald Trump on Truth Social featuring an AI-generated image of him depicted as Jesus Christ. Interestingly, the show’s storyline was written and filmed well before Trump’s post, which he later falsely claimed was a photograph of himself working as a Red Cross doctor.

Kripke reacted to the unsettling comparisons in an interview with Polygon:

I’m exhausted by how quickly the show’s themes are playing out in real life. While I’m grateful for the promotion, I wish we could first release our over-the-top satire and then see if it’s shockingly relevant. It feels like reality is outpacing our fiction, and that’s frustrating.

This episode features Homelander declaring himself to be God, which is strikingly similar to a photo Donald Trump released of himself as God just two days prior. We previously discussed how extreme this storyline felt from a marketing perspective, worried the public would think it was too much. Now, it’s almost impossible to create satire that feels more unbelievable than what’s actually happening in the world.

As The Boys wraps up its latest season, viewers are eager to find out if their beloved, flawed heroes can withstand even more trouble from Homelander.

The Boys is available to stream on Prime Video.
