Fans of The Big Bang Theory will be happy to hear more about Young Sheldon, a successful spin-off that actually spun off from another spin-off! Its popularity has been so strong that it’s now being produced for both CBS and Paramount+.
Season two of Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage is currently airing, with ten episodes released since its premiere last October. Fans have been wondering if any actors from Young Sheldon might make guest appearances. According to TVLine, Lance Barber, who played George Cooper, will return in episode 18 of season two, which is scheduled to air in late Spring 2026.
Barber will be returning for a second time, but he won’t be the only familiar face joining George and Mandy. Zoe Perry, who played Mary Cooper, is also set to appear, and Raegen Revord (Missy Cooper) will be there too – it wouldn’t be a family reunion without a sibling! Fans can also expect to see cameos from Doc Farrow as Coach Wayne Wilkins and Rex Linn as Principal Tom Peterson.
Annie Potts a.k.a. Meemaw, the family’s quirky matriach, will return in Episode 15.
Barber’s return will likely continue the story of his connection with Georgie, played by Montana Jordan. We can expect to see him appear to Georgie in dreams, memories, or a mix of both – the details are being kept secret for now, understandably.
Will George Sr. Be Another Vision, or a Flashback?
However, it’s evident that Steve Holland, who co-created Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage and previously ran The Big Bang Theory for its eleventh and twelfth seasons, isn’t just bringing characters like Barber back for nostalgia’s sake. He has a clear reason for their return.
Look, as a huge fan, I totally get wanting to see certain characters return, but Holland – one of the showrunners – explained they weren’t going to shoehorn anyone back in just to please us. They were really careful about how they handled bringing back George, because they didn’t want it to feel like those dream sequences with Bob Newhart on The Big Bang Theory. You remember those, where Bob Newhart’s character would basically tell Sheldon he was a figment of his imagination? They wanted George’s return to feel different, not so self-aware and meta.
Holland explained they’d avoid repeating a past storyline if they brought the character Barber back. He specifically wanted to ensure it wouldn’t be a repeat of the ‘ghost mentor’ trope they used on The Big Bang Theory.
This creates a really interesting situation for the future, and having actors from Young Sheldon return to enrich the show is a smart move, as long as it’s done well. It seems the team behind the show, led by Holland, understands what’s needed to make it work.
Season 2 of Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage (Episodie 11) resumes February 26 on CBS.
