‘The Batman’ Writer Reignites Hope for One of the Most Sought-After Superhero Sequels

Since Tom Holland became Spider-Man, the movie series has been a consistent success within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Many fans still regret that Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 4 was never made – it would have featured Tobey Maguire battling villains like Vulture and Black Cat. Although that project was abandoned, a writer is now exploring the possibility of creating a script for a fourth Spider-Man movie, potentially starring Maguire and Kirsten Dunst.

Mattson Tomlin, a co-writer on The Batman – Part II, recently discussed his idea for a Spider-Man 4 movie on X (formerly Twitter). While he’s eager to write the script, it’s still in the early stages – he doesn’t have a concrete plan or official backing from the studio or actors yet. He says the process will be gradual, but the fact that he hasn’t received a definite rejection suggests those involved are open to seeing his pitch before making a decision about bringing Spider-Man 4 back.

Okay, so this whole situation is unfolding very slowly, and honestly, it’s complicated – a lot of moving parts with other people and political considerations that are beyond my control. It’s not something I can really discuss in detail for a while, maybe ever, but the good news is, I haven’t received a definite rejection yet! I’m cautiously optimistic, but it’s definitely a waiting game.

More to come.
