The Batman 2: New Photos Released By Robert Pattinson Sequel’s Cinematographer Have DC Fans Convinced That It Will Be Much Scarier Than the First Movie

Released in March 2022, The Batman dramatically changed expectations for DC movies. Director Matt Reeves created a dark and gritty version of Gotham City, emphasizing horror and detective work more than previous Batman films. The film’s striking visuals, captured by cinematographer Greig Fraser, were so impressive that even the renowned Roger Deakins called it the best-looking movie of the year and was disappointed it wasn’t nominated for an Oscar, believing it was overlooked because it was a franchise film. It earned over $772 million globally and left audiences wanting a sequel.

Developing the sequel to The Batman hasn’t been easy. After a long writing process and several setbacks, a major change occurred when cinematographer Greig Fraser left the project and was replaced by Erik Messerschmidt. Now, even before filming starts, Messerschmidt has shared some images on Instagram that have fans believing the new movie will be significantly more frightening than the original.

The photos have a really striking and unsettling, yet appealing, mood. They give a strong sense of the atmosphere we can expect in The Batman Part II.

Recent photos on set confirm what actor Colin Farrell hinted at last year. During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter at the Zurich Film Festival, Farrell, who reprises his role as the Penguin, shared some insights into The Batman Part II. He admitted he’d read the script and, while keeping details under wraps, described it as more intense and frightening than the first film, with higher stakes. Farrell expressed his enthusiasm for the project.

The first Batman film clearly embraced its horror elements. Director Reeves established Batman as a truly frightening figure to criminals. It’s great to hear Farrell say the next film will amplify that fear, and these new photos from the cinematographer confirm he’s right.

How Scary Will The Batman Part 2 Be? 

The upcoming movie, The Batman Part II, suggests it will be even more frightening than the original. While the first film featured the unsettling Riddler as the main threat, the sequel seems to be aiming for a more complex and disturbing kind of horror. The confirmed appearance of Harvey Dent, portrayed by Sebastian Stan, hints at a particularly dark storyline – his descent into becoming Two-Face is one of the most chilling in Batman’s history, and his transformation is visually horrifying.

Barry Keoghan is likely to reprise his role as the Joker. Director Matt Reeves describes this Joker as an early version of the character, not yet the refined villain audiences are familiar with. Even so, he’s expected to be frightening – it is the Joker, after all. He had a brief appearance in the first movie, and giving him a bigger role in the sequel, even a small one, would add a lot of tension and excitement.

The next Batman movie promises to be even darker and more intense. We’re also intrigued by Scarlett Johansson’s secret role and the potential appearance of Christopher Dent, the villainous father of Harvey Dent from the comic books.
