While fans will have to wait until 2028 for The Batman Part II starring Robert Pattinson, director Matt Reeves has another Batman-related project arriving soon. DC Studios recently pushed back the sequel’s release from October 1, 2027, to February 18, 2028 – a disappointing delay considering it had already been over five years since the first film premiered in 2022.
Those looking forward to seeing Robert Pattinson return as Batman in a live-action film will have to wait four more months. However, they won’t have to wait long to see a new take on the character, as director Matt Reeves is also working on an animated series called Batman: Caped Crusader. This series, set in the 1940s and 50s, offers a fresh look at Batman and his iconic villains.
Bruce Timm, who created the acclaimed Batman: The Animated Series, developed Batman: Caped Crusader. However, Matt Reeves—known for his dark and realistic approach to the character in The Batman—has also influenced the show’s style. Though not directly related to The Batman movie or its planned storyline, Caped Crusader captures the same gritty feel. Importantly, fans will get to see Reeves’ vision of Batman in this animated series more than a year before The Batman Part II arrives.
Batman: Caped Crusader Season 2 Premieres In Just Two Weeks
Season 2 of Batman: Caped Crusader will begin streaming on Prime Video on July 31st, following its debut in 2024. This animated series is separate from the world created by Matt Reeves’ The Batman films. However, it’s a great option for fans waiting for The Batman Part II, especially since that movie has been delayed again.
Season 2 of Caped Crusader delivers a similar quality experience to The Batman Part II. In some ways, it feels even more realistic than The Batman, because the show’s early 1900s setting limits Batman to basic technology and equipment. The villains are just as creatively updated as The Riddler was in The Batman, and combined with exciting action and a focus on Batman’s detective skills, Caped Crusader is as strong as its predecessor.
Interestingly, Batman: Caped Crusader has introduced a version of Harvey Dent, a.k.a. Two-Face, before The Batman Part II even gets to him. The Batman Part II is planning to feature Two-Face as the main villain, with Sebastian Stan playing the role and Scarlett Johansson and Charles Dance as his family members. Caped Crusader’s first season already used Harvey Dent as its central antagonist, giving a particularly dark take on the character. So, in a way, Caped Crusader offers a preview of what director Matt Reeves might have planned for the villain in The Batman Part II.

Good news for fans! With the release of Batman: Caped Crusader season 2 just two weeks away, we have a pretty good idea of what’s coming in the next chapter of Matt Reeves’ Batman story. The first season ended with a hint, and the new trailer confirms that Batman, played by Hamish Linklater, will be facing The Joker for the very first time. This promises to bring a lot of excitement and danger to both Bruce Wayne and the city of Gotham.
As a huge fan, I was blown away by the season 2 trailer for Caped Crusader! It looks like we’re getting way more than just The Joker this time around. From what I saw, The Riddler is going to be a major player, kicking off a new crime spree in Gotham. And get this – Poison Ivy and The Riddler are apparently an item, acting like some kind of criminal Bonnie and Clyde duo! They also teased a few other villains, including a really interesting gender-swapped Mad Hatter, Harley Quinn, and Man-Bat. It’s shaping up to be an absolutely packed season.
Season two of Batman: Caped Crusader appears to be continuing Batman’s origin story as a crime fighter. The Gotham City Police Department remains suspicious, Gotham is still full of criminals and emerging supervillains, and Bruce Wayne continues to grapple with balancing his life as both Bruce and Batman. When the new season releases, expect plenty of unexpected twists – hopefully enough to ease fans’ disappointment over the postponement of The Batman Part II.
