The next Batman movie will bring back a key character from the first film, and a star from the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be reprising their role. Filming is expected to begin next month. While the story is still under wraps, fans are excited about the sequel, especially with reports of a strong script and the addition of actors Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan.

Andy Serkis confirmed to return for The Batman 2, filming month revealed

Andy Serkis, known for his roles in Marvel films, will return as Alfred Pennyworth, Bruce Wayne’s trusted butler and guardian, in the sequel to The Batman.

Deadline announced that Andy Serkis’s participation was only delayed by coordinating his filming schedule. He needed to balance work on an upcoming DC film with his directing and acting commitments to ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum.’ He is now actively involved in both projects.

The publication also stated that filming for the sequel is scheduled to start in June 2026. Robert Pattinson, reprising his role as Batman, recently mentioned during an interview on C à vous – while promoting his film The Drama – that he’d begin preparing for the second movie “in a week,” immediately after finishing promotion for the Zendaya film.

Andy Serkis recently mentioned to Collider that he believes he’ll still be able to participate, even with his work on ‘The Hunt for Gollum.’ He said, “I’m feeling good about it. We’re making progress, and it looks promising.”

The Golden Globe-nominated actor told ScreenRant he won’t be involved in the first phase of production because he’s currently working on The Hunt for Gollum. He plans to join the project later, aiming to be on board ‘by the end of the year.’

The next Batman movie is scheduled to come out on October 1, 2027, just before “The Hunt for Gollum” hits theaters on December 17th. Matt Reeves is directing, and he worked on the screenplay with Mattson Tomlin.

Robert Pattinson and Andy Serkis are back, and Colin Farrell will again play Oz Cobb/Penguin. Jeffrey Wright is also expected to return as James Gordon. New to the cast are Sebastian Stan as Harvey Dent, and Scarlett Johansson, whose role is currently secret but is rumored to be Harvey Dent’s wife, Gilda.
