The Batman 2 Enlists Star Wars Talent for DC Sequel Movie

The next Batman movie from director Matt Reeves is getting a creative upgrade with a production designer who previously worked on the acclaimed Star Wars series, Andor. This designer has even won an Emmy for their work.

Emmy-winning Andor production designer joins The Batman 2

Luke Hull, the production designer behind acclaimed shows like Andor and Chernobyl, is joining the team for The Batman 2. His work suggests the sequel will feature an even more realistic, shadowy, and detailed version of Gotham City, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Production designer Gavin Hull is known for building incredibly detailed and realistic sets that help tell a story and make it feel weighty. For the series Chernobyl, he actually built a full-scale nuclear power plant to truly show the enormity of the disaster. He used the same down-to-earth approach on Andor, creating believable worlds, like the planet Chandrila, Senator Mon Mothma’s home, which he envisioned as a unique mix of “feudal Japan, Scandinavia, and Scottish castles.”

Hull previously told Deadline that making a real impact isn’t just about how big something is, but about clearly showing how devastating something is and how it affects people. This approach fits perfectly with the dark and heavy atmosphere Matt Reeves created for his Gotham.

This new casting choice feels especially fitting. In the world of The Batman, Gotham City isn’t just a setting – it’s a character in itself. Batman’s fight for justice is deeply connected to the city’s darkness and decline. Unlike some other superheroes who travel the world, Batman’s story is fundamentally Gotham’s story.

Hiring a designer like Hull, known for building settings that mirror a story’s themes and characters’ inner lives, suggests Reeves wants the city to remain a strong and intimidating presence in the next film.

Robert Pattinson is returning for the next Batman movie, alongside Colin Farrell, Jeffrey Wright, and Andy Serkis. The story will continue right after the events seen in The Penguin series. The film is scheduled to come out on October 1, 2027.
