Even though “The Asset” is one of the best new thriller series of 2025, the Danish show leaves viewers hanging with an unresolved cliffhanger and really needs a second season to tie up loose ends. It’s incredibly frustrating when a thriller doesn’t deliver a satisfying conclusion, especially when the central mystery remains unsolved.
Just as a show can suffer from going on too long, it can also be harmed by not knowing when to end. A prime example is Twin Peaks, where a shocking reveal – arguably the show’s best moment – ultimately left season two struggling to find a direction.
Like Prison Break, which started strong with the thrilling story of Michael Scofield helping his brother escape, The Asset on Netflix also lost momentum after its initial premise. Both shows were captivating at first, but became less engaging once the main characters were no longer facing the original challenge.
The Asset Season 2 Needs to Reveal Who Shot Tea In The Asset’s Ending

In the series The Asset, rookie police officer Tea Dessau goes undercover, tasked with befriending Ashley, the girlfriend of a powerful drug lord named Miran. The mission becomes complicated when Tea unexpectedly forms a real connection with Ashley and her daughter, Sofia, leaving her conflicted about bringing Miran’s criminal operation down.
As the exciting story of The Asset nears its end, Tea is finally compelled to tell Ashley the truth about who she is, hoping to shield her from the dangerous Miran. Meanwhile, Tea’s colleagues at Denmark’s intelligence agency are closing in on Miran’s scheme, and Ashley and Sofia are in danger unless they listen to Tea’s guidance.
Honestly, finding out Tea wasn’t who I thought she was stung, but I quickly realized Sofia’s dad, Miran, is seriously dangerous. I need to escape his world – his drug operation – if I want to stay safe and still be a part of my daughter’s life. So, as much as it hurt, I ended up trusting Tea and doing what she asked.
Despite a confrontation between Tea and Miran, Sofia and Ashley manage to escape the clutches of the mob boss. Miran is eventually arrested and faces numerous drug charges. In a surprising turn of events, Miran protects Ashley, confirming she wasn’t involved in his criminal activities, allowing her to focus on raising Sofia as a single mother.
The story appears to reach a natural conclusion, but then The Asset delivers a surprising twist. When Tea is approached by her old coworker, Yasin, who attempts to recruit her back to the Danish Security and Intelligence Service, their meeting is violently interrupted by a shooting. The series ends with unanswered questions about who was responsible and whether Tea will survive her injuries, leaving viewers frustrated and uncertain.
Ashley’s Finale Discovery Changes The Asset Season 2’s Story
The final scene with Tea feels frustratingly abrupt and unresolved, leaving the story on a cliffhanger. This is especially disappointing considering the otherwise satisfying conclusions for most of the characters. We’re left with Tea unsure where her loyalties lie, Miran demonstrating his genuine love for Ashley, and Ashley’s desire for a new life being challenged by a surprising revelation.
When Tea visits Ashley’s new place, Ashley’s mom unexpectedly discovers a key hidden in one of Sofia’s toys. The key unlocks a storage unit containing both drugs and a large sum of money, leaving Ashley in a difficult situation. She’s now faced with a tough choice: she could take the money and disappear, or she could try to sell the drugs.
With Miran’s connections, Ashley had a clear path to becoming a powerful crime boss. Miran had definitely downplayed Ashley’s involvement in his drug operation, and Ashley still resented Tea for ruining her comfortable life with a dangerous man.
As a huge fan of The Asset, I was already hooked wondering what Ashley would do faced with that cliffhanger – even before they finished filming! But now that Tea’s been shot, a second season isn’t just something I want to see, it feels absolutely essential. We need to know what happens next!
The Asset’s Story Would Be Incomplete Without Season 2
It would have been compelling if Ashley had found the money and drugs at the end of The Asset, leaving her to grapple with what to do next. While this presents a significant moral dilemma that tests her core values, it’s not a matter of life or death, so the story doesn’t necessarily need to show her decision.
Unlike Ashley’s ambiguous situation, the shooting of Tea needs a clear answer in season 2 of The Asset. While it’s okay to leave Ashley’s choices open to interpretation, viewers deserve to know who shot Tea and what motivated them. Tea’s story is about what happened, and that needs to be resolved.
